pickThis book was well written, though sad, and it seemed to capture the poorer aspects of Appalachian life quite well, moving from generation to generation. I feel like this was an under-the-radar novel, but what really made this stand out was the stellar narration of the audiobook, with a full cast of characters that really brought this one to life.
pickGood stuff: multigenerational historical fiction with just a touch of magical realism, set in Appalachia, and featuring a cast of characters that made me run the gamut of emotions. It‘s dark and sad, and does not shy away from the socioeconomic hardships of these people, but the writing is so very lovely.
The full cast on the audio did such a great job with the dialect that at times I was annoyed with it and longed for proper grammar.

pickIt‘s a story about family legacy, loyalty, and love. It‘s about sociological strangle-holds that are persistent and tangible today.

pickThank you again to @Shvonne for such a wonderful gift. It took me a little while to get into this multigenerational tale of a family tied to a mountain and a curse. Once I did though, I was so immersed in Bloodroot Mountain it was as if I was there. There is a lot of love, pain, and longing on these pages sprinkled with just enough folklore. I could have read hundred more pages of Byrdie's accounting of her family history alone. #litsyatoz G

so-soI enjoyed this book better than the author's other book, Longman. Bloodroot is a story centered around Mayra and is told from various characters' viewpoints, including Mayra's. Family dysfunction reigns in the rural Tennessee town. Some cringeworthy moments especially between Mayra and her husband's family. The only downside was the characters don't get a good wrap up and makes me want to know what happened to them.
I almost passed this one up. Then I saw that a friend of mine gave it a 5-star rating. My #LittleFreeLibrary is going to have to wait just a bit longer for Bloodroot to adorn her shelves. And, yes, my library is a "she"!
