South!: The Story of Shackleton's Last Expedition 1914 - 1917 | Ernest H. Shackleton
Account of the Imperial Trans-Antartic Expedition attempted by Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew. The goal of making the first land crossing of the Antartic Continent was never reached. Instead, the Endurance, Shackleton's ship, got trapped in pack ice, and Shackleton's new aim was to rescue all his crew members, in which he finally succeeded. Originally released in 1919.

I‘ve read Caroline Alexander‘s book about Shackleton‘s expedition, & I have Alfred Lansing‘s on my shelf, so I couldn‘t resist downloading this audio as well. It‘s more straightforward & scientific in a logbook sort of way than Alexander‘s, but I still found most of it fascinating as a more immediate, first person version. The part about the Aurora got long to me, but other than that, I‘m amazed by this survival story every time I read about it.

Daisey * I accessed this audiobook through the #Librofm Educator #ALC program. Audio duration: 15 hours 48 minutes 7mo

“When I look back at those days I have no doubt that Providence guided us, not only across those snowfields, but across the storm-white sea that separated Elephant Island from our landing-place on South Georgia.” Very interesting ! History , geography and beautiful images !

I have been a stay at home Mom for 10 years. This school year I occasionally will be filling in as Secretary. My kids go to a very small private school meaning my responsibilities mainly consist of, answering phones, receiving packages, answering the door to parents, and handing out an occasional bandaid. This "job" is making me so happy!!

When your book comes from project Gutenberg and you don't even have a nice cover to share on Litsy... Also I think I'll learn a ton of ice related vocabulary ;)

I had seen a documentary several years ago on Shackleton‘s ill-fated attempt to cross Antarctica and was fascinated by this story. This book pieced together from many of his journal entries could be dry at times as he‘s documenting the latitude and longitude and other pertinent data day to day yet the overall description of the many challenges they faced kept me going. An incredible tale of man overcoming overwhelming obstacles to survive.

MrBook Welcome to @Litsy ! We hope you enjoy your stay, I think you'll like it here 😎👍🏻. 8y
