pickYou could probably spend the rest of your life reading nothing but books about the First World War, but if you can only choose one you could certainly do worse than this. A chronological, narrative-driven account of the events directly preceding and during WWI, it manages to be an entertaining read without skimping on the research. Chapters are broken up by "Background" asides providing additional context regarding the major names and places.

My husband has been raving about this book, so when he finished it the other day, I picked it up. World War I is not a history topic that has held a lot of interest for me, but this is so well written that it is keeping my interest. And I've learned a lot in just a few chapters.
