White Lioness
White Lioness | Henning Mankell
7 posts | 21 read | 7 to read
Third in the Kurt Wallander series. The execution-style murder of a Swedish housewife looks like a simple case even though there is no obvious suspect. But then Wallander learns of a determined stalker, and soon enough, the cops catch up with him. But when his alibi turns out to be airtight, they realize that what seemed a simple crime of passion is actually far more complex and dangerous. The search for the truth behind the killing eventually uncovers an assassination plot, and Wallander soon finds himself in a tangle with both the secret police and a ruthless foreign agent. Combining compelling insights into the sinister side of modern life with a riveting tale of international intrigue, The White Lioness keeps you on the knife-edge of suspense."

Mehso-so

Not my favourite Wallander book so far. Too many nonsensical decisions by Wallander this time around for me. But an ok read nonetheless.

Interesting concept. I've always felt truth was black and white.

#FeistyFeb My Swedish wife introduced me to Henning Mankel's books when we met 13 years ago. In addition to being a SUPERB #InternationalCrime writer, he was an astute chronicler of cultural and political issues.

HardcoverHearts One of my favorite genres is mysteries in translation! You can learn so much about culture norms, other country's jurisprudence and you can get a great story to boot. 8y
vivastory I love the TV series with Kenneth Branagh "Wallander" 8y

Angelala007 @Susanintiburon , she's a 5 pound white honey badger. 😃 and yeah she knows :) 8y
Angelala007 @JulieAnn - I'm not far in to it but it's great so far. Have you read the first two? Faceless Killers and The Dogs of Riga. 8y
JulieAnn @Angelala007 yes I did. I liked both of them. They are definitely darker than the usual mysteries I read! Wallander is a great character. 8y
Angelala007 @JulieAnn I totally agree about Wallander. After Faceless Killers I was hooked. I have the same feelings about Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks. And my husband thinks Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch is a real person. 😜💙 8y
JulieAnn @Angelala007 I love Inspector Banks. I've read them all! Also I recently discovered Hulu has the DCI Banks tv series! I've never read the Bosch series but Mark Billinghams DI Thorne series is also really really good. Bosch is a real person on Amazon, right? 😃 8y
Angelala007 @JulieAnn oooh! I'll give the tv series a try! Thank you for the Billinghams recommendation. Every now and then my husband will say "I got an email from Michael Connelly" like they are besties :) 8y
JulieAnn @Angelala007 that's great! Tell him I feel the same way when I get an email from one of my authors. I've gotten a reply from one of them from a question on Facebook and I about died! Lol. I'm sure it was an assistant but it made me smile. I hope you like DI Thorne. There's just something about him 8y
