There is a lot of solid writing in this book! It reminds me of Wallace Stegner, Ivan Doig, Larry Watson in that it is evocative of a distinctly American space & time.
So-so rating because first, there is a dog fighting chapter and Rhodes tries to write a sympathetic participant. Second, there is an entirely implausible event/plot line 3/4 of the way in which completely lost my buy-in.
I live in the driftless region of the US. 😊
