One of my best friends recommended this book to me and she's gonna be disappointed, but... I kinda hated it.The cover says it's GRIPPING and HILARIOUS. I thought it was a snoozefest and McEwan's showoffy physics blah blah blah was irritating. It literally put me to sleep. Maybe I'm not intillectual enough for this book. Or maybe McEwan is a bit of a brainy bore.

This one never clicked for me. The main character reminded me of someone out of a Philip Roth novel.

For most of this book I didn't really like it but it really comes together at the end.
The main character, Michael Beard, is despicable and unattractive yet has been married 5 times and has women clamouring for his attention. I wish I could say that such a plot is unbelievable but the truth is it is sadly believable. While this book does look at relationships it also looks at climate change and the science surrounding it in a non-intimidating way.

I really appreciated the wit and humour embedded in this. The portrayal of the self satisfying male lead was great, although he isn't particularly likeable in his traits, and the way in which the story played out was very impressive.

Random pick from a swap or sale. I wasn't sure to begin with but it's rather amusing in its wordiness and poking of fun!

An enjoyable read. I seem to go through periods where I read no Ian McEwan and somehow expect to be disappointed - I don't have the faintest idea why. Yet the last 2 books I read were both really good. I wanted to murder the main character, or force him to go to a fat farm or something, just reading about all he ate made me sick - but it's truly well written.
