There's something intoxicating in our work; suddenly it's permissible to lie, you can put on an act, and everything is sanctioned by the state. The operative is licensed to commit crimes. He steals, sometimes he even kills, and instead of going to prison he gets a commendation.

I just finished this spy book, and it was great. I loved it. The author describes the missions of the main character, her solitude, her doubts, her life... I loved the quality of the writing, the beauty of some descriptions.

Great Israeli spy novel.

While preparing New Year Eve's feast, I've finished my last book of this year. Not so good, but not bad. Translated from the Hebrew, it's a story about Mossad spies. It was slow read for me because there is no dynamic in the story. It's about the loneliness and oblivion showing that a spy job is no fun.

Just finished reading this. An amazing fabric composed of so many threads. Thriller, love story, espionage, betrayal, and psychological insight into loneliness and identity. How intelligence organizations can eat their young. One of the best spy novels I've encountered. Beautifully translated from the original Hebrew. A deeply nuanced page-turner and a true work of art. Highly recommended.

I'm so close to being done this on audio, and it's fabulous. It's a novel about spies, but not like what you're expecting. It's about the toll a life of undercover work takes on a person, the relationship between handler and spy, and relationships built on lies. So great.

Has anyone read this? It's going to be my first book translated from Hebrew for sure. I hope the audio is good. I don't always do well with fiction in audio format.
