Once Broken Faith (Toby Daye Book 10)
Once Broken Faith (Toby Daye Book 10) | Seanan McGuire
20 posts | 29 read | 9 to read
'Top of my urban-paranormal series list!' Felicia Day, author of You're Never Weird on the Internet Politics have never been Toby Daye's strong suit. When she traveled to the Kingdom of Silences to prevent them from going to war with her home, the Kingdom of the Mists, she wasn't expecting to return with a cure for elf-shot and a whole new set of political headaches. Now the events she unwittingly set in motion could change the balance of modern Faerie forever, and she has been ordered to appear before a historic convocation of monarchs, hosted by Queen Windermere in the Mists and overseen by the High King and Queen themselves. Naturally, things have barely gotten underway when the first dead body shows up. As the only changeling in attendance, Toby is already the target of suspicion and hostility. Now she needs to find a killer before they can strike again - and with the doors locked to keep the guilty from escaping, no one is safe. As danger draws ever closer to her allies and the people she loves best, Toby will have to race against time to prevent the total political destabilization of the West Coast and to get the convocation back on track . . . and if she fails, the cure for elf-shot may be buried forever, along with the victims she was too slow to save.

I finished off the #VictoriaDayReadathon with this excellent installment from the October Daye series. In this one, Toby negotiates the politics of a conclave involving faerie kings and queens, and ends up as lead investigator when one of the monarchs is murdered.

Starting another October Daye book. It's cold enough in the house for me to use the quilt I made for this year's Denver County Fair, AND it just came out of the dryer.

#10 in the October Daye series. If you are just starting don't begin here because this is where all the children are finally growing up.

Over the past year I discovered that I like coming to series late. Several books late in fact, because then I don't have to wait for the next one and if I like it I automatically know if there'll be more to come. October Daye was like that for me. Great characters, great growth, and a wonderful world. But now I'm all caught up and I'll have to wait for the next installment with the rest of the world. Le sigh....

thec0zy I did the exact same thing! I just finished the Winter Long, and now I have to decide whether I want to devour the rest of the series or pace myself to delay waiting between installments 😢 8y

This series is totally losing its sparkle for me. I'd definitely give this book 2.5 stars - even with Seanan McGuire trying to shock the reader with her weak plot points, this just falls flat for me (sadly).

Ok I'll admit it- I love these books. And this one was certainly enjoyable. However...and I hate to say it but it felt like a filler/bridge book. No real big revelations. After learning in the last couple books about Toby's mothers past and her long lost sister and the curse Titania put on the Ludeaig.... This book didn't continue that overall story for me. It just showed me more happy, in love Toby who is almost indestructible. I want answers!!!
