I read very little YA anymore & even less magical realism/speculative fiction, but the blurb for this book sounded intriguing & Desamours knocked it out of the park. I can‘t believe this is a debut.
This is pact with so much: friendship &family relationships, mystery & a teen‘s disappearance, racial inequality, mental health, chronic illness, and the unique gift Sariyah has to hear people‘s needs. Yet even so, it all fits & is balanced perfectly.
