A woman is relaxing in the tub, drinking a bit too much wine, when her attic hatch swings open and a masked man drops down and kills her. But her death is ruled an accident, so when another woman thinks there‘s a man in her attic, she doesn‘t know how truly worried she should be. I really enjoyed this page-turning thriller and would read Mara again for sure.

I ultimately found this novel more satisfying than I thought I might based on the earlier chapters. It's convoluted, but in a way I found fairly gripping. The characters could be more nuanced, and I couldn't read a lot of these kinds of books in a row because they would all blend together and annoy me, but it's nice as a diversion from time to time. #ScreamTeam #HauntedShelf #OneSnackToRuleThemAll #Chocolatiers

Saw this giant cocktail shaker today at a cool resale market near my kid's college. I had a lovely day and now am reading the tagged while my spouse is watching football (and I'm a smidgen tipsy after two cocktails), but this is the only photo I took. There were also 80s-era lunchboxes for $200+. I bought nothing.

PSA: One can't lie on one's back and also lie prone, at least according to Merriam-Webster. This is one of those mistakes I made in my 20s that embarrassed me so much that now it sticks out to me whenever I see it.

•Overall, this was a moderately engaging story with an interesting family dynamic and some tense, eerie moments culminating in a somewhat lackluster ending.
•But hey, I found another accented narrator with whom I can stay in the story with.

Well this was quite the thrill ride. You're just never sure where it was going to go until it did. The plot is clever and well written. The book had me hooked from the start and the ending didn't disappoint either. I loved how it all came together with the various stories. It's creepy with a modern twist but real because these things can happen. A great creepy thriller. 4*

Despite there being some major facepalm moments that this reader found seriously frustrating, Someone in the Attic was a spooky fun read. I enjoyed the truly terrifying premise, and am excited to have added another author to my list of those to watch for. #audiobook

Ta Da! I did it! With a couple weeks to go. The tagged book was number 100. That‘s a personal best! The book was good but not a page turn-y as I expected. #readinggoals

“She has no idea what he‘s saying. It‘s so loud, she can‘t hear a thing, but she doesn‘t care because when it‘s this loud and this late and you‘re this drunk, you‘re not supposed to be able to hear anything.”

I was equal parts entertained and frustrated by this story. Today‘s camera monitoring technology could easily solve the issue with the attic. This book was so ripe with red herrings that it was practically rancid, and yet, it remained an entertaining read. I might give up on this genre if this were the typical format, but it‘s certainly fun on occasion.

Yikes!! This is definitely the scariest, tensest & most stomachache-inducing/ ankle-tingling (so you‘re ready to run!) book so far for the #SpookySeasonReading! The whole idea of an intruder living in your home undetected is terrifying to me, & this book plays well into that. Well-plotted & impossible to put down, this one had me guessing, gasping & cringing! I loved it & am looking forward to catching up on the author‘s back catalog for sure!

This novel went back and forth for me. I really liked was the ending. While it was rather predictable as to the “who” I still found it to fit with the story as a whole and was surprised by the motivations of that character. I did find Julia to be an annoying character. Her reactions were not appropriate for the events and I would not have acted in the same way. She seemed not to care about big things and overreacted to others.
