pickA very emotive, and confronting story which addresses some of the most uncomfortable experiences. It‘s told with honesty, it doesn‘t shy away from the trauma it discusses, and doesn‘t soften its edges for the sake of a narrative. In many ways, it‘s well told. However, I did find it just a smidge too much, I am not sure it needed everything it had going on, because for me, it made elements that could have been especially moving a bit too didactic.

1. My birthday! My brothers have taken it upon themselves to make sure my birthday is very special every year (our Mom passed on my birthday 5 years ago). It‘s very touching since we have crazy schedules, families and live in different countries.

pickThis book slowly but effectively wormed it's way into my heart and brain. By midway I was completely hooked and only reluctantly let it go when there was no more words to read. The story was frustrating, made me both angry and sad, and was unfortunately a realistic representation of the misogyny and racism that still exists in our world. I also loved the significance of the title. This one will stay with me and is a great debut. 4.5/5 stars!
pickA wonderful debut! This was a very tough read. You know when a book makes you feel everything? That‘s what this book was.
Jade‘s story, unfortunately, is not a new one. The way this author presented it, made me feel all the anxiety and the grief that Jade was going through after her sexual assault and the repercussions it had on her life, relationships and career.
