The Deer and the Dragon
The Deer and the Dragon | Piper Cj

Pre-order now and receive the stunning LIMITED EDITION while supplies last - featuring gorgeous sprayed edges. The deities you call aren't always the ones who answer. Marlow needs to believe she's crazy. The alternative would mean embracing the gift--or curse--shared by her mother and grandmother: she can see angels and demons, including a dark and haunting entity who's been with Marlow her entire life. At least, she believes that's all he is until a fae from the Nordic pantheon strolls into her life and informs her that she's been sharing a bed with the Prince of Hell. A Prince who's now gone missing. Before she knows it, Marlow is deeply entangled in a centuries-old war, stumbling straight into a battleground between mighty beings of myth and legend from powerful pantheons around the world. And who will come out on top may just depend on her and the love she never dared to believe in.

I enjoyed my #TBRtarot pick this month. It was a slow burn and of course ended on a cliffhanger so now we must wait for the next book. This had lots of mythology, a strong FMC and an impending war between heaven and hell. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Altough I needed some time in the beginning, the story drew me in. In some passages, I got lost in Marlow's thoughts, but the plot was very clear. I liked the sporadic flashbacks, as well as how they were clear to distinguish.
At the end I felt like it could have gone on for a while longer, which means I read through it quickly. That's always a good sign. The only downpart now is waiting for the sequel.

Soft pick due to the slow set up (but as the 1st book in a planned series with worldbuilding & magic systems to account for, it‘s understandable) but eventually everything started rolling & it‘s very unique & sexy. Could have been a bit more immersive, but I liked the characters & premise of the Battle between Heaven & Hell (&the other pantheons).

Happy Pub Day for this Piper CJ novel!
1 of the only times an author on booksta hooked me with their pitch (or maybe the teal sprayed edges)
& the rest of them are a Savers haul, found some goodies, it seemed pretty picked over today
