pickI had trouble tracking the POV characters at the beginning of this book, but by the time they came together and their stories aligned, I was hooked. I do feel like this story was just the beginning of something longer, so I certainly hope it will be a series that can build on the syory and worldbuilding started here. A great sci-fi romp.
pickI really enjoyed Cho‘s debut although this story about a woman who tries to help her friend when he‘s framed for murder is not without its flaws—starting with the fact that the precipitating incident, the event the book‘s marketing hinges on, doesn‘t occur until almost 200 pages in. There are other things not fully explained or realized and yet…I really liked the characters & am interested in seeing how the story develops. I‘ll read the next one.
pickSci-fi frequently seems to connect to our concepts of culture and exploration (and colonialism). So I‘ve always wanted access to more international science fiction. But a lot of times when I get it, I feel like I‘m missing something. I liked this. I‘ll read a sequel. I‘d buy a cookbook based on the food descriptions. But, I do feel like there are things I‘m missing.

Found family, enemies-to-lovers(?), cliffhanger ending.
Nothing much happens in the first 3/4 of the book, unfortunately. Secondary characters are mere plot devices and can only be distinguished by their quirks.

pickInteresting space opera set in a solar system where a reunified Korea is the dominant space power. There's a fair amount of action, but it's pretty character-centric, with themes of found family and queer love. It appears to be the first of a series, and I'm interested to see where it goes.
