When her sister succumbs to a mood that makes the whole family feel topsy-turvy, Vanessa paints a wonderful imaginary place--a beautiful garden complete with a ladder and a swing--in a story loosely based on the writer Virginia Woolf and her artist sister, Vanessa Bell.

5⭐️ I just loved this! Based loosely on the life of Virginia Woolf and her sister, painter Vanessa Bell, this charming book tells a story of sisterhood and the magic of art overcoming depression. The illustrations are completely transporting and really made me believe what I was reading even though I‘ve sadly lost that magical imagination that comes so easily to children. Also available in Spanish. #BBRC Picture Book Letter V @LibrarianRyan

The major allusion in this book is going to go right over the picture book crowd‘s head. But read solely as a sister trying to cheer another sister up through art, it is a sweet story. And the art is absolutely amazing.

#BlackCatChallenge Day 28: Virginia Wolf‘s shop of tiny painted skulls transformed into little trinkets fascinated me to no end, when I was walking around Camden Town in London 3 years ago. Don‘t they look equal parts creepy and beautiful? For more of my photos in Camden Town, here‘s my Photo Journal post: https://wp.me/pDlzr-aq7

#day2 #17booklove #picturebooklove This picture book has THE most gorgeous illustrations... just so beautiful. It's a sad sweet story based on Vanessa Bell attempting to brighten her sister Virginia's dark world, by drawing a perfect world upon her walls.... In this story Virginia is an actual wolf, and the painted world reminded me of Charleston House in Sussex, one of my most favorite places, and home to the Bloomsbury set for a while.

#myyearinbooks I don't remember if Goodreads did this last year, but i love seeing these stats! 🤓..... My goal was 100, and I only read 90 last year so I'm pretty happy, and all thanks to the inspiration from all you fabulous Littens! 💕💕💕

Zelma There have always been tabs with those stats but I don't recall a cool graphics page like that. I typically judge my reading on pages read as opposed to number of books so GR is really useful for keep track for me. 8y

Bought this book because it is loosely based on Virginia Woolf's relationship with her sister. Loved it because of how it portrays depression.
