A late post 😳Thank you @mommamanzi for this great #CBBC box. There are two extra books 😃which I‘m excited to read:Bless Your Heart and Four Parties and Funeral. The book club book sounds interesting (Sprinkles and Sea Serpent). As I mentioned in the email, trying to save the coloring book and coloring pencils from my daughter😂 What can I say about the coffee? I‘m enjoying my flavor coffee every afternoon☕️😌 Thank you🥰♥️♥️♥️
If you like weirdly heartwarming horror, this one‘s for you! With themes/images reminiscent of both Practical Magic and Southern Book Club‘s Guide to Slaying Vampires, it‘s hard not to love Ryan‘s entry to the vampire/zombie canon.
Read this one last week. It was pretty gruesome but found it an interesting take on vampires. Though they call them strigoi (not sure the spelling) and they‘re kind of more like zombies.
Four women own and run a funeral parlor and have quite a history.
Devoured this in one sitting. Horror story about ghouls attacking a Texas town with plenty of gore, a twist I did not see coming, and a family of women fighting the dead.
I am not into horror usually, but this was great because there was humor and a lot of dramatic tension mixed in.
I think the cover does the book a disservice. This has a lot of gore and horror mixed in with the banter. It is NOT some cute, sweet texas vampire story.
Not quite what I expected!

Horror isn‘t my usual fare, but this vampire/horror/mystery combo has me itching for a sequel. Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#bless-your-heart
Publication is expected April 9.

Here‘s my review for a book I just DNF‘d. I was on the Canva mobile app designing my book review and I was having trouble copying and pasting my book review from Goodreads so I decided to just take a screenshot of it from StoryGraph instead. I don‘t know why the copy and paste function stopped working on Canva but I liked using it.
Release date: 4/9/24

Here‘s my progress for this Netgalley ARC I‘m reading. I‘ve decided that I‘m going to DNF this one. I thought I would like this book because it‘s set in Southeast Texas in 1999. I‘ve lived in SE Texas my whole life and I was in 5th grade in 1999. This book has 90‘s references so I thought it would be nostalgic for me to read. I like the TX setting, the audiobook narrator and the 90‘s references but I can‘t get into this book.
I really had high hopes for this one… I expected a light and fun vampire story, but this veers more towards gore and lacks humor (unless you get a kick out of butterscotch candies… those are mentioned on like every page!). Stiff characters, lack of answers regarding these “restless dead” and too many POVs, the pacing here just drags. Lots of redundant descriptions don‘t help and honestly, I wish I had DNF‘ed this one! I did like the 1999 setting.
I started this book today when I was at the dog park with my dog. This is a Netgalley ARC being released this month. I don‘t know if I‘m going to like this book or not. I‘m not liking it so far but I‘m going to keep reading and see what I think.
Today, I‘m sharing my BookSpin and DoubleSpin picks. My #doublespin pick is a Netgalley ARC that is being released this month. This is a mystery/horror book set in Texas. I‘m looking forward to reading this book next. My #bookspin pick is a book about all of the women in the Bible. I think it will be interesting to read about.
I currently have SIX audiobooks on the go because I can‘t seem to stick to anything. 😅
Tbh, I‘ve mostly been binging The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and snuggling the fur babies while I take it easy. Puddles is still obsessed with my bump, and I love it. Anyways, all is well! Less than two months to go! 🥰
Yay! I was approved for the audio for this. I was approved for the ebook of this book too.
I was approved for this book today from Minotaur Books. It comes out in April. I like the title and I like that it‘s set in Southeast Texas in 1999. I live in Southeast Texas and in 1999, I was 9 years old. This sounds like the perfect book for me.
