The Masque of the Black Tulip | Lauren Willig
9 posts | 39 read | 7 to read
...But now she has a million questions about the Pink Carnation's deadly French nemesis, the Black Tulip. And she's pretty sure that her handsome onagain, off-again crush, Colin Selwick, has the answers somewhere in his archives. But what she discovers in an old codebook is something juicier than she ever imagined.

A fun sequel. It managed to capture the same charm as the first book, with distinctly different main characters. I particularly enjoyed the juxtaposition between the Henrietta-Miles story and the Eloise-Colin story. Willig's style is engaging and the characters and their relationships feel believable. Like the first book, there are some spicy scenes (it is a romance novel), but not overdone. Recommend.

The books in this enjoyable series are just pure escapism, fun romps through 19th Century British history with lots of spies, disguises and surprises, plus bits of romance and mystery to boot. Definitely recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A follow-up as adorable as its prequel! Loved the dynamic between Miles & Henrietta. Their best-friends-turned-lovers chemistry danced on the page from the first. The rest of the plot — & the ultimate answer to the question it poses — was very obvious from the beginning, & I still felt like Eloise‘s random interludes were unnecessary, but such things are easy to forgive when there are great characters & hilarious writing! ★★★★☆. 3rd for #24in48.

Post-bath after starting weekend two of 🧘‍♀️ teacher training (my shoulders are sore!): fuzzy owl jammies, lots of water, and this book - which is, so far, just as fun as the first one.

thec0zy I just complete my teacher training last month! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! 7y
ElenaBaer I am on year 21 of teaching!! And I love this series ! 7y
mcipher @thec0zy It is great so far! Are you teaching now or did you just do it for yourself? 7y
mcipher @ElenaBaer Awesome! I‘m really excited - I always wanted to be a teacher when I was a kid but I hated my college practicum so I switched majors, and now I‘m coming back to it from a different angle, I guess! It is a great series too. ☺️ 7y
