Mehso-so

I enjoyed the story this book was trying to tell about two boys from different backgrounds who become college roommates and keep growing closer and the joy and loss they experience. However I did not like the writing style at all. The dialogue all felt flat and unnatural and everyone had the same voice and there was a lot of telling and not showing with the relationship development. It made it had to become emotionally invested.

I felt ancient reading this book. It‘s about coming out, about first love and first loss during freshman year. Everyone in the book is sooo gentle and good: it was all a bit too cheesy and YA for me.

Gleefulreader I‘m laughing because I feel like I could have written that review about a lot of books recently. It is why I find my reading habits and what I pick up has changed lately. 6d
Kerrbearlib Beautiful picture! 6d
BarbaraBB @Gleefulreader I recognize that. And I was never much into YA anyway! 6d

Suet624 In this dead of winter I find I‘ve become tempted by any book with that type of colorful cover. 🤷ðŸ»â€â™€ï¸ 6d
BarbaraBB @Suet624 If you‘re in for some sad gay romance too, pick it up 💕 6d

Pickpick

One of my favourites (so far!) from the #ToB longlist. Daniel is a scholarship student at an elite East Coast university. His roommate, Sam, is the opposite - a popular, good-looking guy whose father also attended the college. Against first impressions the two become best friends and then something more, but can their relationship go the distance?

Be warned - it‘s a sad one. 😢

sarahbarnes Good to know you liked this one! 1mo
