Read this one in the recommendation of a friend. I've got mixed feelings about it. Overall it's a nice and easy read and there is enough there to keep you intrigued. But, I do however feel like some bits were a bit too on the nose, especially with the heartsoothers values. Can't say I saw the ending coming so that was a pleasant surprise.

This has a little bit of everything: mystery, magic, intrigue, and a great group of characters. I found myself greatly interested in their lives and their struggles. They contain honest emotions and reactions and were well developed. I especially enjoyed seeing Nhika‘s strength throughout, as well as her overall growth. I can‘t wait to see what is in store for these characters in the next novel of this duology.

Overall, The Last Bloodcarver is an amazing YA fantasy that will appeal to fans of The Last Airbender and Not Even Bones. One highlight of this book is how it starts off with a punch and never lets go. There is nonstop action from beginning to end. Another highlight of the world building that actually felt original and complete. This book takes place in an Asian-inspired steampunk world that I wanted to visit and never leave.

If you recall, a couple weeks ago I presented my 15 year old homeschool kiddo with a stack of books to choose as our next buddy read & this won out. He devoured this! Typically our buddy reads stretch out over 1-2 months. He finished this in less than a week & negotiated for extra LA hrs to keep reading 😂

I‘m happy to say I found it just as addictive as he did & the ending had us both in deep discussions! Very much looking forward to book 2!

TheBookKeepers A medically driven magic system, Bloodcarvers are feared by the public due to their ability to manipulate human anatomy with a single touch. Our main character is the last known of her kind and the story kicks off with her being captured and sold on the black market to the highest bidder. The story morphs into a world of aristocracy & and murder mystery that needs solved. 9mo
Allthebookclubs This sounds VERY similar to The Bone Shard Daughter! 9mo
TheBookKeepers Oh that‘s on my TBR, I‘ll have to read it soon @Allthebookclubs 9mo
