PRE-ORDER THE CAPTIVATING, HIGHLY ANTICIPATED NEW NOVEL FROM THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER AND WINNER OF THE WOMEN'S PRIZE FUTURES AWARD. Inspired by real historical figures and events . . . NOT ALL WHO ARE FALLEN WANT TO BE SAVED London, 1847. In a quiet house in the countryside outside London, the finishing touches are being made to welcome a group of young women. The house and its location are top secret, its residents unknown to one another, but the girls have one thing in common: they are fallen. Offering refuge for prostitutes, petty thieves and the destitute, Urania Cottage is a second chance at life - but how badly do they want it? Meanwhile, a few miles away in a Piccadilly mansion, millionairess Angela Burdett-Coutts, one of the benefactors of Urania Cottage, makes a discovery that leaves her cold. Her stalker of ten years has been released from prison, and she knows it's only a matter of time before their nightmarish game resumes once more. As the women's worlds collide in ways they could never have expected, they will discover that freedom always comes at a price . . . The Household is the new novel from the award-winning, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Familiars, The Foundling and Mrs England. Stacey Hall does it again taking a moment in history & bringing it to life in her own imagining of life in the late 1800's in London. Taking inspiration from real life events & Dicken's David Copperfield, Hall has woven a story about fallen women finding friendship, purpose & a future. I found the only known picture or Urania Cottage that Dickens set up with Angela Burdett-Coutts

I very much enjoyed The Household. There‘s a fantastic cast of characters and it‘s beautifully written. Charles Dickens even features! It‘s an interesting plot line with a few twists and turns. I liked that it was about a real house, Urania House, one of Charles Dickens‘ projects, a home for fallen women funded by Coutts bank. An absorbing and engaging read.

In 1847 the famed Angela Burdett Courts of the banking fame is busy constructing an experimental "Safe house."
Alongside Charles Dickens
they run a house for fallen girls.
Broken homes, prison, the streets and workhouse or orphanages.
All are welcome IF they agree to try to improve themselves and make ready for a new life in the colonies in Australia.
But behind the scenes Angela is suffering, living with the mental trauma of a stalker.

A library book. I‘m looking forward to reading this as I loved The Familiars and The Foundling. I haven‘t read Mrs England yet.

I enjoyed this new one from Stacey Halls almost as much as The Familiars. The story revolves around Angela Burdett-Coutts and the charitable home, Urania cottage, she establishes with a consortium of philanthropists, including Charles Dickens. It is a refuge for fallen women to give them a second chance at a decent life. Worth a read.
