For fans of Mindhunter, Criminal Minds, and My Favorite Murder, a riveting memoir of a trailblazing womans life hunting down serial killers as one of the first female profilers of the FBI Behavioral Sciences Unit and the real-life model for Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs. Jana Monroe is the single most influential woman to ever serve in the FBI. Joe Navarro, bestselling author of What Every BODY Is Saying Jana Monroe was no ordinary cop. One of the first analystsand, at the time, the only female agentin the world-renowned FBI Behavioral Sciences Unit at Quantico, she consulted on more than 850 homicide cases, including infamous serial killers Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Edmund Kemper, and Aileen Wuornos. Monroe was also the model for Clarice Starling in the movie version of The Silence of the Lambs; she even helped train Jodie Foster for her Oscar-winning role. Monroes later years found her dealing with the aftermath of Columbine, heading up the FBIs post-9/11 investigation in Las Vegas, and much more. In Hearts of Darkness, Monroe steps out from the shadows to tell the story of her astonishing life in shaping law enforcement and intelligence analysis. Monroe explores the cases that have stayed with her, breaking down victimology, offering new insight into the minds of serial killers, and discussing the psychological toll of the job and the obstacles she faced as a woman in the male-dominated Bureau. This is a gripping, sometimes gruesome, and always remarkable memoir of an unparalleled life and career spent chasing the monsters among us.

But what was really flummoxing the six males around the table were symmetrical marks under the breasts of the three victims shown in the photographs spread out in front of them.

Were they something the killer had done? A signature maybe that investigators could follow ....
Finally...."Jana, what do you think?"

...."it looks to me like these are the marks you get after you've been wearing an underwire bra all day...?

charl08 Great example of the need / benefits of diverse teams... 1w
Julsmarshall Love this! Makes me want to read it! 1w
ChaoticMissAdventures These situations always take me back to "100 Tampons". When nasa was sending up their first woman for 1 week and the men decided she would need 100 tampons if she got her period. Someone made a really catchy song about it. 1w
charl08 @Julsmarshall one of those bios you don't read for the beautiful writing, if you know what I mean. 6d
charl08 @ChaoticMissAdventures now I'm wondering how you use a tampon in zero gravity... 6d

Here's my usual reading nest, with my bestest snuggle buddy, Noms. I kinda forgot about the #hyggehourreadathon, but since I've been reading pretty much all day, I figure that's okay 🤣🤣.

Book topic, not so cozy...
