Dragon Sword and Wind Child
Dragon Sword and Wind Child | Noriko Ogiwara
9 posts | 6 read | 17 to read
Caught between two worlds, will Saya be destroyed by her own destiny? The fate of her world rest in the palm of her hand; The Dragon Sword can save the world, or destroy it; As the forces of Light and Dark wage war, the Dragon Sword waits to be awakened. Reads L to R (Western Style), for audiences. The forces of the God of Light and the Goddess of Darkness have waged a ruthless war across the land of Toyoashihara for generations. But for 15-year-old Saya, the war is far away and unimportant--until the day she discovers that she is the reincarnation of the Water Maiden and a princess of the Children of the Dark. Raised to love the Light and detest the Dark, Saya must come to terms with her heritage even as she tumbles into the very heart of the conflict that is destroying her country. The armies of the Light and Dark both seek to claim her, for she is the only mortal who can awaken the legendary Dragon Sword, the fearsome weapon destined to bring an end to the war. Can Saya make the dreadful choice between the Light and Dark, or is she doomed--like all the Water Maidens who came before her? The magatama are stones of destiny, magical amulets passed down to a chosen few. But all knowledge of the stones' true nature has been lost, and each bearer must discover the power of the magatama to calm the Dragon's destructive spirit before it destroys the world.

Mehso-so

It was an overall very underwhelming read for me, although the story and characters held a great potential. The language was somewhat dull and the characters development was poor and shallow. I wonder how much that is due to the translation though... what a pity, it could've been really awesome!

The story is interesting enough so far to keep me going, but I really wish it was better written/translated. The language is a bit dull and descriptions of characters as well as the world in which this happens fall rather flat...

Tsubame @moranadatter What did you think about it? I've seen you read it too, but as far as I can see you didn't post anything after reading it. 7y
moranadatter @Tsubame I enjoyed what I read, but I was reading too many books at the time so I set it aside. I plan to go back. 7y

Pickpick

I really enjoyed this! It's a book club pick that I'm so glad someone else suggested, because it wasn't one I'd heard of before. It took a lot of traditional fantasy tropes and did far different things with them than I expected... in good ways. I loved adding a diverse fantasy read to our current book club theme. I'm excited to read the next book in the trilogy, but sad that the third hasn't yet been translated into English.

Morning plans. 📚☕️ 👍🏼

My sister gave me a bunch of day-old Panera pastries and I warmed up what I thought was a cinnamon scone, only to find it was a pumpkin spice bagel. I'm not disappointed, but I felt silly because I made the discovery as I started trying to eat it with a fork... 😜

tpixie Well it does look like a scone! A bagel is supposed to have a hole!! 7y
BarbaraJean @tpixie Exactly! It's that darn cinnamon sugar, covering up the hole! 7y

I just started this one--a book club pick for the end of the month--and now I have a total of seven books in progress. 😳Gotta finish a couple of these this weekend! #Litsypartyofone goals!

I'm enjoying this so far--it's fascinating to read a Japanese fantasy novel, drawing on folklore outside my usual fantasy reads. And isn't this opening illustration gorgeous?#readingintranslation #diversebooks

KerriNTurner Stunning illustration! 7y
