Told from the perspective of four characters, this novels moves back and forth between the present and a decade before when a terrible car accident killed teenager, Phoebe. Her brother was driving the car; her friend Becca was in the back seat. On the same night, June‘s brother left the house and didn‘t return until…I rated this so-so because I did finish, but the characters were irritating and the ending was 😬. It read long & was underwhelming.

Told in multiple POVs in both the present & past, this relies heavily on the characters‘ mental health issues to create unreliable narrators & further the suspense of what happened a decade ago. I am always wary of books that use this device in mysteries & unfortunately it didn‘t work for me here, especially given that it seems everyone in town believed what was originally told to police on that night so there was no real need to tell this story.

This is quite a bleak and sad story set in a claustrophobic town where its inhabitants all seem to have secrets or are very reserved. None of them are particularly likeable. I liked the writing style, it drew me in. I did find it a little drawn out and protracted. I enjoyed it, though, and thought it depicted small town dynamics very well. A well written and engaging read with an interesting twist. #Pigeonhole

What really happened the night of the accident ten years ago?

Why didn‘t Grant call the ambulance immediately instead of waiting twenty-seven minutes to call for help.

Twenty-Seven Minutes is a gripping suspense novel that revolves around the death of a young girl, Phoebe. Her brother, Grant, and his friend, Becca, have been hiding secrets for ten years. ⬇️

This book should have been titled twenty seven hours. A wreck happens in the prologue where a character dies and the ambulance doesn‘t get called for 27 min. Good start. Then the characters involved just seem to run into each other around town and never talk about anything (most of the book). The last 10% is the big reveal which wasn‘t very shocking. Thanks to NG for the ARC, but I think some editing could help this one out.

A good read The anniversary of an accident with lots of questions and no answers That vital 27 minutes what happened. The book leads up to the memorial and you can feel the tension. Will what lies buried become known You really get to know the character. Just a really good read
