Triumph
Triumph: The Untold Story of Jesse Owens and Hitler's Olympics | Jeremy Schaap
4 posts | 5 read | 1 reading | 8 to read
At the 1936 Olympics, against a backdrop of swastikas and goose-stepping storm troopers, an African-American son of sharecroppers won a staggering four gold medals and single-handedly demonstrated that Hitlers myth of Aryan supremacy was a lie. The story of Jesse Owens at the Berlin games is that of an athletic performance that transcends sports. It is also the intimate and complex tale of one remarkable man's courage. Drawing on unprecedented access to the Owens family, previously unpublished interviews, and exhaustive archival research, Jeremy Schaap transports us to Germany and tells the dramatic tale of Owens and his fellow athletes at the contest dubbed the Nazi Olympics. With his incisive reporting and rich storytelling, Schaap reveals what really happened over those tense, exhilarating weeks in a nuanced and riveting work of sports history.

#GetMovin By almost all accounts Jessie Owens was one of #TheGreatest Olympic athletes in history. My son read this book for a research paper on Jessie Owens and the 1936 Berlin Olympics. (Which means I read the book too) Very informative and easy to read. Full of historical context given the times.

eanderson 💕💕 love this! 6y

I LOOOOOVE the #olympics and I own or have read all of these Olympics-related books. I'm seeing that I need some Winter Olympics books. The other picture is me in Montreal in front of some Canadian Olympics office. I also took my picture in front of the big torch they had there! I'm using is for #bestillmyheart too because the Olympics have a special place in my heart! #readingresolutions #HeartsandHardcovers
