In this queer YA psychological thriller from the author of Some Girls Do and Hot Dog Girl, the sole surviving counselors of a summer camp massacre search to uncover the truth of what happened that fateful night, but what they find out might just get them killed. Sloan and Cherry. Cherry and Sloan. They met only a few days before masked men with machetes attacked the summer camp where they worked, a massacre that left the rest of their fellow counselors dead. Now, months later, the two are inseparable, their traumatic experience bonding them in ways no one else can understand. But as new evidence comes to light and Sloan learns more about the motives behind the ritual killing that brought them together, she begins to suspect that her girlfriend may be more than just a survivorshe may actually have been a part of it. Cherry tries to reassure her, but Sloan only becomes more distraught. Is this gaslighting or reality? Is Cherry a victim or a perpetrator? Is Sloan confused, or is she seeing things clearly for the very first time? Against all odds, Sloan survived that hot summer night. But will she survive what comes next?

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

I loved this book. I always forget how engaging a YA Thriller can be, but this one really hit all the marks for me! A realistic but unreliable narrator, a suspenseful mystery, and a Final Girl theme. Not to mention a roller coaster ride of a conclusion.

De-decorating soon, but for now, enjoying the ambience.

Aims42 Same 😞 De-decorating on my plans for this weekend. Booooo 12mo
ShyBookOwl @Aims42 I planned to do so on Sunday, but woke up sick. Slowly getting around to it now lol Now it's just cold, snow storms, and no festivities to look forward to until spring 😕 11mo
Aims42 Ugh, right? Don‘t be hard on yourself, while yes, I did take it all down over the weekend. It sat in the bins in our living room until last night when I took them to the basement 😂 I hope this winter flies by, I‘m so ready for spring! 11mo

When it's 7pm on a Saturday, and you just got baby down, but can't quite muster the energy to face the mess downstairs, so u take a beer and a book up to bed 😅

Last #FirstLineFridays of the year 🤯 I'll be taking this book into 2024 with me 🤗🥳

It had taken sixteen sutures to close the wound on the underside of Sloan's forearm.

Mehso-so

I didn‘t like the ending at all. I nearly bailed on the book half way through. However, I pushed through and finished it.

Sloan and Cherry are the sole survivors of a summer camp massacre; their trauma bonding them in a way few people can understand. Sloan has been having a harder time moving on due to her memory loss during that fateful night. On a mission to uncover the truth about what happened and gain her memories back, Sloan uncovers more than she can handle. This took a heartbreaking turn. I enjoyed this for what it was. YA queer slasher 4/5 #NetGalleyArc

Good potential but veers off. Queer based teen horror focusing on a pair of girls who survived a camp massacre (hence, the final girl trope), bond over their trauma, and eventually fall in love. However, does one of them know more about the murder than they let on? Set up was great but the ending deteriorated and became confusing. Overall, meh.
