Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft has influenced and guided countless students, coven initiates, and solitaries around the world. One of modern Wicca's most recommended books, this comprehensive text features a step-by-step course in Witchcraft, with photographs and illustrations, rituals, beliefs, history, and lore, as well as instruction in spellwork, divination, herbalism, healing, channeling, dreamwork, sabbats, esbats, covens, and solitary practice. The workbook format includes exam questions at the end of each lesson, so you can build a permanent record of your spiritual and magical training. This complete self-study course in modern Wicca is a treasured classican essential and trusted guide that belongs in every Witch's library. Praise: "A masterwork by one of the great Elders of the Craft. Raymond Buckland has presented a treasure trove of Wiccan lore. It is a legacy that will provide magic, beauty, and wisdom to future generations of those who seek the ancient paths of the Old Religion."Ed Fitch, author of Magical Rites from the Crystal Well "I read Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft with much pleasure. This book contains enough information and know-how for all approaches: the historical, the philosophical, and the pragmatic . . . quite entertaining, as much for the armchair enthusiast as for the practicing occultist."Marion Zimmer Bradley, author of The Mists of Avalon "Never in the history of the Craft has a single book educated as many people, spurred as many spiritual paths, or conjured as much personal possibility as Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft."Dorothy Morrison, author of The Craft

Was an interesting little read. Not exactly what I expected, but very interesting and informative. More like a workbook style course in Witchcraft than a history on the topic.

Save the Date! @monalyisha is doing a #WitchPleaseSwap to celebrate all things witchy!!!

So excited for this, esp. since in last year‘s Halloween Swap I didn‘t receive a single thing that was Halloween/Fall/Witchy related. Hoping for better luck this year, since it is my FAVORITE season!!

See original post for details!

This also goes quite well with the #Screamathon readathon, which I will be resurrecting in October again! 🧙🏼‍♀️🍁🍂🎃

Jennick2004 @MommyOfTwo here‘s your Halloween one 6y
mabell A Halloween-free, Halloween-swap package? 🤔 6y
alisiakae @Mabell Yep! A bit of a head scratcher (last year‘s, that is). Can‘t wait for this swap! (edited) 6y

Can‘t believe I did it. Listened to this entire thing “cover to cover.” Phew.

I did find it to be extremely heteronormative, and weirdly critical of female dominance in the craft.

Buckland is fully transparent about the fact that he has made up large portions of these “traditions” so it‘s weird to me when people treat it as a bible.

I enjoyed the brief overview of so many topics though, and the list of active practitioners.

SkeletonKey Full disclosure, I‘m more of a heathen dirtwitch type so I‘ve never related to so much ceremony to get closer to nature. 7y
PirateJenny I so agree about how ridiculous it is that people treat it as a bible. His fake history annoyed the piss outta me. I love the phrase heathen dirtwitch 😊 7y
SkeletonKey @PirateJenny - Right?! When I think about all the snooty people who reference this as true, oof... 7y

BeansPage I am an eclectic Pagan Priestess (been practicing now for over 20 years). I like Raymond Buckland's early work but like the rest of you I do not understand why this book is considered our bible. It is a great written work to have as reference but nothing more beyond that really. I find Scott Cunningham's books a lot more informative and useful. 7y
BookwormAHN I also love the phrase heathen dirtwitch. My biggest annoyance with the book and him was his disdain and dismissal of solitary witches. He made it sound more like a secret society for only the select and initiated. 😡 7y
BookwormAHN @Syndelle777 I also like Cunningham's books. I think Raven Grimassi's Italian Witchcraft is my favorite 💙 7y
BeansPage @BookwormAHN Have you read any of Christpher Penczak's books? 👍🏻 7y
BookwormAHN @Syndelle777 I haven't. What do you suggest? 7y
BeansPage If you're looking for lighter reading I suggest his The Witch's Shield book. However if you're looking for a little more heavy reading in a series, I would highly suggest the Temple of Witchcraft series. It is very educational, very well written, the exercises are easy to follow, and for me personally it helped me grow a lot in my spirituality and my magick works. 7y
BookwormAHN @Syndelle777 I'll look into those. Thanks 💙 7y
BeansPage No problem at all 😉💕 7y
SkeletonKey @Syndelle777 @BookwormAHN - If you can get your hands on Penczak‘s audio meditations, I really enjoyed those. 7y
BeansPage @SkeletonKey his book The Witches Shield comes with an audio CD 7y
BeansPage But I think the books of the Temple of Witchcraft series all have audio companions 7y
SkeletonKey @Syndelle777 - Yep, I‘m talking about the audio companions to the temple books. 7y

I have mixed feelings about this but my library has the audiobook so here goes!

This basically seems like a smoke and mirrors book and it says as much in the intro but it‘s still interesting in how much it‘s inspired culturally.

We‘ll see how far I can get due to bravado and inaccuracy though.

PirateJenny I wish you luck! I have feelings about this book. 7y
SkeletonKey @PirateJenny - Perhaps we can discuss our mutual feelings at the end of this ride, haha. 7y
BookwormAHN It's been a while since I read that, but as I remember Buckland is quite full of himself 😸 7y

SkeletonKey @BookwormAHN - Anyone who can reference himself this many times in a book must have some self esteem 😂😂😂 7y
2BR02B I read this when I was sixteen. His writing style didn't bother me nearly as much as Scott Cunningham's in 7y
SkeletonKey @2BR02B - oooh wow, yeah. I remember that one too 7y
PirateJenny @SkeletonKey That should be fun. 😂 7y
