Love, Holly: A Novel | Emily Stone
8 posts | 6 read | 8 to read
A young woman tries to heal a rift in her elderly pen pals family in time for Christmas, all while falling in love--and maybe even reuniting with her own family--in this dazzling romance from the author of Always, in December and One Last Gift Ever since an accident three years ago, Holly has been part of a lonely-hearts letter writing club for the holidays. The tradition is something she has come to treasure: Each December, she writes to a stranger who is also spending Christmas alone and receives a letter from another lonely person. Usually, the letters go unanswered. That's the pointthe letters are anonymous, and the sender writes whatever is in their heart. But this year, the letter Holly receives is different; not only is the letter full of a grief she knows all too well, but its writer, Emma, mentions a place that Holly has visited. When she realizes she might actually be able to find the letters author, Holly becomes determined to reunite Emma with the estranged grandson, Jack, that shes desperate to reconnect with. And when Holly finally tracks him down, she realizes shes met Jack once beforeand the connection was electric. The spark between the two of them is still there--until a misunderstanding risks their burgeoning romance and his strained relationship with Emma, too. But Holly is determined; if she can fix Emmas family, she might also be able to fix her own. Though as it turns out, Holly might have less time to put things right than she thought

Bailedbailed

I was looking forward to a sweet holiday romance with some depth, but after only a few chapters I had to bail. I felt a little blindsided by a plot point and didn‘t want to continue (I‘m putting it in the spoilers). Bummer! I bet it goes on to be a great book.

I already returned it to the library, so enjoy this picture of Fitz and Zoe!

LiteraryinPA I knew grief was going to factor into the story. But I didn‘t expect that the main character was going to accidentally kill her pregnant sister by driving while distracted. That just felt too upsetting for me to read on. 12mo

behudd @LiteraryinLawrence you definitely don‘t have to keep reading, but wanted to let you know that‘s not what happens. I can say more if you want, but her sister is alive. If that makes you want to pick it back up 12mo
LiteraryinPA @behudd Oh my gosh, really? Can you explain what happens? 12mo
behudd @LiteraryinLawrence her sister loses her baby in the accident, which leads to a rift in their relationship, but her sister is alive. 12mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Despite its title & cover, this is not the straightforward Christmas romance one would expect.
There is such depth of character & feeling in this book, and romance, and good conversations about the difficulty of forgiving others & yourself, and also, somehow, really good plot twists? And it all worked perfectly.
Heather Long was a great audiobook reader as well, and I will definitely be reading more of Stone‘s work in the future.

Holly participates in a Dear Stranger club to write letters to others spending Christmas alone. This year, it seems fate has other plans for her! An emotional, heart wrencher with a very cute romance and a strong message on loss, grief, family, forgiveness, and second chances. The characters are multi-dimensional and highly flawed, they just felt REAL! Loved it. Not my last Emily Stone! 5/5

Christmas tree and decorations are done. Shopping is done too. I just need to wrap a couple of presents, mail two packages and write Christmas cards. Hopefully, I will get some baking done but starting next weekend, I will be working seven days in a row for the next year to finish paying for my MLIS degree and hopefully graduate next December.

I also put together the holiday books that I hope to read!

This is my third Stone book, and I have thoroughly loved each one.

Holly is recovering from a tragedy three years ago and becomes involved in a lonely-hearts letter-writing club. Each December she writes one letter and receives one from an anonymous person sharing deeply personal thoughts about their loneliness. This year the letter she receives is different…it‘s signed and mentions a café that Holly has visited. She decides to return to this ⬇️

robinb small town and track down Emma, a woman suffering from a long-standing family heartbreak, in the hopes of providing some aid/comfort. As she‘s trying to convince the crotchety, reclusive Emma to let her walls down, she meets her estranged grandson Jack, another re-acquaintance from her initial visit to the café. As she works to help her new friend through grief and regret, Holly also begins to heal and start the journey toward ⬇️ 1y
robinb forgiving herself and reconciliation. This one is both heartwarming and heartbreaking filled equally with laughter and tears, and while the issue of Fate and serendipity is prominent, there are still some surprises along the way. I loved ALL of the characters, but the Holly/Jack/Emma threesome were especially poignant and real. Beautiful writing, and definitely recommended. 4.5/5⭐️ 1y

I finished the new Emily Stone last week, and I thought it was cute. Was I prepared for my face to leak? Nope! But I'm not even mad about it. Now, what I am slightly upset about is that she threw in a one bed trope and made it fade to black.
