Bored Gay Werewolf
Bored Gay Werewolf: "An ungodly joy" Attitude Magazine | Tony Santorella
13 posts | 6 read | 11 to read
Brian, an aimless slacker in his twenties, works double shifts at his waiter job, never cleans his apartment and gets black-out drunk with his restaurant comrades, Nik and Darby. He's been struggling to manage his transition to adulthood almost as much as his monthly transitions to a werewolf. Really, he is not great at the whole werewolf thing, and his recent murderous slip-ups have caught the attention of Tyler, a Millennial were-entrepreneur determined to explore exponential growth strategies in the mythological wellness market. Tyler has got a plan and he wants Brian to be part of it, and weirdly his brand of self-help punditry actually encourages Brian to shape up and to stop accidently marking out bad tippers at the restaurant as potential monthly victims. But as Brian gets closer to Tyler's pack and drifts further away from Nik and Darby, he realises that Tyler's expansion plans are much more nefarious than a little lupine enlightenment... Big-hearted, goofy, anarchic and funny, Bored Gay Werewolf is a smart take on the doomsday logic of late capitalism and the complicated meeting point of masculinity and sexuality. More than that, though, and like Scooby Doo with Grindr or Stranger Things with sex and ennui, it's a buddy novel about finding your pack, the power of friendship, and learning how to be comfortable in your own, shaggy werewolf pelt

Bored Gay Werewolf is absolutely hair-larious and pawsitively charming in every way (I'm going to stop with the cringey werewolf puns now, I promise!). Reminiscent of Palahnuick's Fight Club with a mystical twist, Santorella pens a tale of an aimless werewolf who gets caught up in a lycanthropic pyramid scheme built on the foundation of toxic masculinity, misogyny and capitalism which alters the trajectory of his life. (1/2).

TheIntrovertedDodoBird How could I not read a book with such an awesome title and anti-rich undertones? It features my all-time favourite Found Family trope and a kickass enby character who totally deserves their own book! Fighting toxic masculinity and sexism left me howling with triumph! Waiting for the sequel, Shy Trans Banshee, is going to take FOREVER (October 2nd, 2025?! I'm too impatient to wait!). (2/2). 4mo
KathyWheeler Oh, yay! I‘m so glad there‘s going to be a sequel! Darby is the best and does deserve their own book. 4mo
TheIntrovertedDodoBird @KathyWheeler I was thrilled when I read about the sequel! Darby was my favourite character. I would kill for them to have their own book! They're so awesome! Shy Trans Banshee is an equally awesome title! 🏳️‍⚧️🐺🏳️‍🌈 4mo

KathyWheeler @TheIntrovertedDodoBird That is definitely a great title. I picked Bored Gay Werewolf specifically because of the title, and I‘d have probably picked up the sequel for the same reason. 😊 4mo
rwmg I didn't know we already had a title and release date for the sequel 😍 4mo

I was off today since I worked all last weekend! Luckily it was such a beautiful day I got to spend it reading at the park! 🌿📖

I was sitting on a bench and an old guy walked past and asked what I was reading. Without a word I flipped the book around and showed him the cover. 🐺🏳️‍🌈 He gave me a disappointed look and walked away. 🤣😂 Maybe he thought I was reading the bible?! 🤭💕

Whoo-hoooooo! 🥳🎉🎉🎉 Nothing makes a long day better than some book mail! I ordered them last week and they arrived today! I'm super excited about both of these! 💕📚 I can't stop chuckling over the tagged book's title! 🤭

Thank you so so SO much for the gift card, Scott! 🥰 @vivastory

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I loved Bored Gay Werewolf - I hope he writes another. It‘s perhaps not quite the book you‘d expect from the title - but it works. (edited) 6mo
Hooked_on_books I‘m not sure I can know there‘s a book called Bored Gay Werewolf and not read it! 6mo

Let's play review catchup!

It took me long enough to get into this one that I considered DNFing despite the spectacular title, but the beginning was, in fact, somewhat boring. But the story picks up once Brian realizes his new werewolf life coach is no good. At that point it got a lot more interesting and really turned around for me. Basically a college student turned werewolf working as a batista gets suckered into a self help pyramid scheme.

Mehso-so

Brian works as a waiter and roams a local park one night a month as a werewolf. Then he meets another werewolf with a disturbing vision of what being a werewolf means.

It was light on the gore and had some amusing moments. If I came across a freebie by the author or it was included in one of my subscriptions, I'd read it but I wouldn't actively search for more books by him or pay out good money for it.

I wish this had been funnier than it actually was, but I still enjoyed this story which is really more about friendship and finding your tribe or pack than anything else. I also finished The Lost Soul of the City — the first book in the second “season” of Dean Koontz‘s Nameless series. It was a fine story, but I liked the first season better. If you have Kindle Unlimited, this series is available there. Started Happy Place for my #audiowalk.

What our bored, gay werewolf has gotten himself into is becoming increasingly sinister. I hope he can extricate himself from it. #audiowalk

We drove down to the beach today with Mr. Mercedes for company. A lot of the Gulf Island National Seashore in FL was blocked off to cars and even to walkers. I hope this means they are going to start construction on areas that were damaged by hurricanes about 2 years ago. Brian has probably made a bad decision in my book, but he shouldn‘t be bored anymore! #audiowalk

I wasn‘t in the mood for the book I was listening to, and I‘m always up for a good werewolf story, so thought I‘d check this one out. #audiowalk

Brian is a bit hopeless but in a relatable kind of way and so when he slowly gets sucked into what is essentially a pyramid scheme by the wealthy (jerk) Tyler (also a werewolf) by way of a self improvement scheme - you find yourself hoping he can extract himself from the situation…

Throw in some great friends - that he tries to keep in the dark about his condition & before you know it, the work day is mostly done! 😉
