Never a Hero
Never a Hero: The Sequel to Captivating YA Fantasy Novel, Only a Monster | Vanessa Len
6 posts | 5 read | 1 to read
'Heart wrenching and unputdownable' Stephanie Garber, on Only a Monster Not every fight is won by heroes. Sometimes, you need a monster. The sequel to the contemporary fantasy Only a Monster will take Joan deeper into the monster world, where treacherous secrets and even more danger await. Despite the odds, Joan achieved the impossible. She reset the timeline, saved her family - and destroyed the hero, Nick. But her success has come at a terrible cost. She alone remembers what happened. Now, Aaron, her hard-won friend - and maybe more - is an enemy, trying to kill her. And Nick, the boy she loved, is a stranger who doesn't even know her name. Only Joan remembers that there is a ruthless and dangerous enemy still out there. When a deadly attack forces Joan back into the monster world as a fugitive, she finds herself on the run with Nick - as Aaron closes in. As the danger rises - and Nick gets perilously closer to discovering the truth of what Joan did - Joan discovers a secret of her own. One that threatens everyone she loves. Torn between love and family and monstrous choices, Joan must find a way to re-gather her old allies to face down the deadliest of enemies, and to save the timeline itself. Pickpick

Good second book in what should be a trilogy. I‘m team Aaron all the way 😂 I‘m not into love triangles but this one I‘m opinionated on. Got a bit mired in the location details, but the pacing and action helped.

Mehso-so

I don‘t really know what to say about this book. Joan‘s secondary companion Nick I didn‘t like too much, and I wanted more Aaron and Joan moments. The story (at least to me) left me with a few questions.

So each of the main characters are going to have their own book? First is obviously the main character Joan, and now Nick? Then Aaron will be the main focus of the next book??

Pickpick

Soft pick. There were high points to this & some reveals that were really unexpected. I am going to need to re-read Only A Monster &Never A Hero before the 3rd book… because it‘s a lot: weird magic, timetravel, timelines, a love corner, lots of side characters, family powers, there‘s a ton of details, ¬ clear or concise. Cliffhanger ending. Not always a fan. But I like the MC Joan, the concept is weird &different. +Enemies to lovers is a fave.
