This was a delightful Muslim focused second chance romance based loosely on Austen‘s Persuasion. Jalaluddin‘s novels have been on my TBR for a long time and I‘m so happy I finally picked one up because I loved it! Nada and Baz have a long history which we find out about in bits and pieces between the present day storyline. I loved the way their big secret is slowly revealed. 👇🏻
pickAhhhh! This was so good. My favourite Uzma Jalaluddin yet. A wonderful second chance romance and a Jane Austen's Persusasion retelling set in Toronto's Muslim community. You know a romance is well done when the plotting feels tense and unpredictable even though you know the characters will end up together. The protagonists' dynamic was awesome, so much chemistry and such a unique story. Loved all the secondary characters too and hated the villain.
This book is so good!! And I'm only half way through, so I've got lots more to savour. Uzma Jalaluddin is so good at creating flawed and lovable characters. I was immediately on Nada's side. And she and Baz have such a history and chemistry! 🔥
pickI so extremely rarely like a romance story. I bailed on Beach Read, but I loved Ayesha At Last. So thought I'd give this author another chance and it was a win! I think it's because of the family and friendship drama? And the chaste nature of the romance? Maybe because it's based on a Jane Austen plot? Anyone else have a guess at why these stand out to me?

Nada is still trying to recover from the betrayal of having her idea for an app stolen by a family friend when her bestie persuades her to go to a conference, specifically to meet her fiancé‘s brother, Baz. The thing is, Nada has a long history with Baz. From childhood through college, their relationship has changed dramatically.
pickAfter rereading the author‘s Ayesha At Last, I was hoping the author was writing more books in the same Toronto neighborhood & especially Jane Austen retellings. This book is the latest & I missed one in between (Hana Khan Carries On) that I have on hold via Libby. While Ayesha‘s book retold Pride and Prejudice, this one is a retelling of Persuasion. I enjoyed it almost as much as the first book & was happy to catch up with characters from ⬇️

After rereading Ayesha At Last with the #PemberLittens in April I looked to see if the author had other books coming out & this one (a Persuasion retelling) was published in June. My library e-book hold just came in yesterday! 🤗 Both novels are set in the Muslim community in Toronto so perfect for todays #CanadaDay prompt.

pickThis is a delightful rom-com with some surprising depth. It features Muslim families and is set in Toronto. I really enjoyed the characters and the dynamics between them and their parents. It felt a little like a coming-of-age novel, as the characters figured out who they were and what they wanted and dealt with parental expectations. For anyone looking for spice, this is not the book for you...but for a fun romance...I really liked it. 4/5
