This bestselling and critically acclaimed series is now a feature-length anime--and now, readers can experience the entire fantastical tale in stunning collectors' hardcovers! In a land far away, there were two kingdoms: the Outside, where twisted beasts roamed that could curse with a touch, and the Inside, where humans lived in safety and peace. The girl and the beast should never have met, but when they do, a quiet fairy tale begins. This is the story of two people--one human, one inhuman--who linger in the hazy twilight that separates night from day. Nagabe’s haunting, bestselling manga series has captivated critics and general audiences from its debut to its conclusion, inspiring an animated short film and a successful crowdfunding campaign for a feature-length anime. Now enjoy the original manga tale in a series of four gorgeous, deluxe hardcovers containing the complete series, color inserts, and exclusive covers from Nagabe that will cast their magic over any bookshelf.

I saw this gorgeous graphic novel in the YA room of the library a few months ago. The art intrigued me, along with the Gaelige words (Siúil, a Rúin — sometimes spelled rún; this means, ‘Walk, my love‘).
I had no idea what it was about. I didn‘t check it out that day, and each time I looked again afterwards, it wasn‘t on the shelf…until a couple of weeks ago, with volume 2. I checked them both out. This is not my first graphic novel, but it⬇ï¸

JenniferEgnor is my first manga style graphic novel. There are 12 volumes total in this series, and I have a feeling I‘ll want to read them all. I don‘t really know how to explain the story…but, in a medieval-like setting (bonus points already!), a plague-like ‘curse‘ has spread, infecting nearly everyone. A small child ends up being cared for and loved by a mysterious horned figure known as ‘Teacher‘. There is some humor, humility and darkness within â¬‡ï¸ 1d
JenniferEgnor the story. Its morals and inspirations from historical events are not hard to see. 1d

Gorgeously gothic Ghibli. The vibes of a Hayao Miyazaki film (little girl plus fantastical creature), but lean a little darker. Quite obviously I'll be reading the subsequent volumes because this Vol 1-3 collection in no way resolves the story. It's honestly baroque and bizarre enough to enjoy, regardless of the plot arc, which is good because it does have that serialized tendency to go over the same ground to stall the action a bit.

Admittedly, I wish the entirety of the book was in this multi-toned painterly style, but even confined to black and white sketching, the tale is enchanting. Dark, but enchanting.

This is a beautiful sweet gothic fairy tale. The story of little girl and “teacher†who is a cursed soul. This first volume introduces this world and our charming main characters. The art is lovely and the little girl is so cute. There are true moments of danger as well. I look forward to continuing this manga series. 5âï¸
