On Earth as It Is on Television
On Earth as It Is on Television | Emily Jane
6 posts | 3 read | 8 to read
First Contact stories have never been as intoxicating and fun as in Emily Jane's novel of the sudden arrivaland equally sudden departureof spaceships above Earth. The arrival of spaceships can bring up a lot of big questions: What does it mean that we're not alone? Why did aliens come here? Who knew beforehand? Where.... are the aliens going? Wait... They can't just leave! Without inviting us into their galactic federationor at the very least obliterating us! In Emily Jane's debuta rollicking paean to what it means to be alive in the twenty-first centurythe fleeting presence of alien vessels, and the certainty that humans are not alone in the universe, sparks intense uncertainty as to our place within it. Blaine has always been content to go along with whatever his supermom wife and television-addicted, half-feral children want. But when the kids blithely ponder skinning people to see if they're aliens, and his wife announces a surprise road trip to Disney World, even steady Blaine begins to crack. Half a continent away, Heather, bored in a Malibu pool while the ships hover overhead, watches as the Arrival heralds the demise of her dead-end relationship and sets her on a quest to understand herself, her accomplished (and oh-so-annoying) stepfamily, and why she feels so alone in a universe teeming with life. And Oliver, suddenly conscious and alert after twenty catatonic years, struggles to piece together broken memories and understand why he's following a strange cat on a westward journey and into the greatest adventure of hisor anyone'slifetime.

I took advantage of Barnes and Noble‘s hardcover sale to acquire these two from @yourfavouritemixtape ‘s #ALSpine list. I had not heard of the tagged, and I have been really wanting to read No Two Persons. Really looking forward to both!

Soubhiville I love Erica Bauermeister so much! Enjoy! 11mo
yourfavouritemixtape I hope you enjoy them as much as I did! 11mo

This was weird but in a very charming way. I wanted to bail after the prologue but I am so glad I didn‘t. But the book would have been just as good without it.

Around earth, giant spaceships appear one day, then suddenly disappear the next day. We follow 3 separate people/families as they navigate this sudden occurrence. Overall a fun read with a light-hearted tone, but there are 2 kids in the book who are so obnoxious they nearly ruined it. A low pick for me.

#libraryhaul

Got a stack of books in from the library today! I‘m trying to read more books already on my TBR and not newer books I keep finding!

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage I read through the Keri Arthur books when I worked at Barnes. Fun stuff! 1y

#Aardvark released their first two rounds of clues and they're tough! (Pictures of the covers sans dust jackets, and some "similar books" type stuff). Looking at some of the color combos and genres, I feel like these could be possible! Guesses always get better as the clues go on though, so I could also be dead wrong ??‍♀️

The tagged book intrigues me and Cassandra in Reverse gives me Oona vibes ??

Breanne1 If these are right I‘m definitely getting the tagged and I want The Chateau 🤞 1y

Laughterhp @CSeydel I saw it‘s a retelling of Pinocchio. 2y
CSeydel Yeah, and Pinocchio (the book, not the Disney movie) was utterly bizarre. Pinocchio-with-murder-robots sounds like a wild ride! 2y
Megabooks So excited you‘ll be joining us again at camp! 2y
