The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Dear Martin delivers a gripping romance about two teens: a certified genius living with a diagnosed mental disorder and a politician's son who is running from his own addiction and grief. Don't miss this gut punch of a novel about mental health, loss, and discovering you are worthy of love. Scars exist to remind us of what we’ve survived. DETACHED Since Shelbi enrolled at Windward Academy as a senior and won’t be there very long, she hasn’t bothered making friends. What her classmates don’t know about her can’t be used to hurt her—you know, like it did at her last school. WASTED Andy Criddle is not okay. At all. He’s had far too much to drink. Again. Which is bad. And things are about to get worse. When Shelbi sees Andy at his lowest, she can relate. So she doesn’t resist reaching out. And there’s no doubt their connection has them both seeing stars . . . but the closer they get, the more the past threatens to pull their universes apart. #1 New York Times bestselling author Nic Stone delivers a tour de force about living with grief, prioritizing mental health, and finding love amid the chaos.

I got to meet Nic Stone for about 5 min at the book fair in my area. This story is about 2 teens, both dealing with trauma & mental health issues. They become bffs & eventually there‘s some romance. I‘m in the MH field & think Stone portrayed substance abuse & mental health accurately. She wrote that this is her most personal book. Also, I had a bad day, then re-read what she signed, & it made me feel better. Story is hopeful, not a downer.

Scochrane26 So glad I got to meet her. She seems to really care about youth, she went to a few area high schools to do talks while she was in town. 3d

Was excited to meet Nic Stone & have a convo with her & Mariama J. Lockington. I didn‘t get to attend their bigger talk. Nic Stone did talks at 2 schools while she was in town, what a treat for those students. I loved Lockington‘s Forever is Now, so I bought another. She also has an anthology about adoptees. Got a GN from David Arnold (squirrel zombies!). Of course, had to stop by & get poetry from Frank X. Walker.

This book was so good! I love YA books that deal with big life issues bc that‘s what my teen years looked like. This book covers themes of mental health (bipolar), grief of losing an immediate family member, parental infidelity, & alcoholism all the while sharing such a heartwarming story of a friends to romance arc for the characters. Absolutely brilliant, highly recommend. What‘s the last book you read & LOVED? #youngadult #contemporaryfiction

Not my favorite book, but still one of my favorite YA authors. I will ready anything by Nic Stone because of the empathy that surfaces in me from reading her books. A great recommendation for any teens who struggle from or know someone with mental illness.

An absolutely delightful and heartful story of 2 teens grappling with deep loss, and their shared struggles with substance abuse and self-harm. Love is in the stars for them but it requires honesty and directness, which they are still learning…

Been madly getting through more #mayrso2023 two contemporary romances for older teens, and two historical adventures for middle readers. Moving onto June now soon, I reckon.
