Dear Dolly
Dear Dolly: On Love, Life and Friendship, Collected Wisdom from Her Sunday Times Style Column | Dolly Alderton
3 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
'Alderton is Nora Ephron for the millennial generation' Elizabeth Day Since early 2020, Dolly Alderton has been sharing her wisdom, warmth and wit with the countless people who have written in to her Dear Dolly agony aunt column in The Sunday Times Style. Their questions range from the painfully - and sometimes hilariously - relatable to the occasionally bizarre. They include breakups and body issues, families, friendships, dating, divorce, the pleasures and pitfalls of social media, sex, loneliness, longing, love and everything in between. Without judgement, and with deep empathy informed by her own, much-chronicled adventures in love, friendship and dating, Dolly leads us by the hand through the various labyrinths of life, proving that a problem shared is truly a problem halved. Like her memoir, Dolly‘s responses to her readers are very conversational. Reading them feels like talking to an old friend. Her advice is very practical and real, but she‘s never judgmental. She seems to really understand what her readers are asking and gives relatable advice.

I love Dolly - I have read her 2 previous books & adored them, as well as her podcast. It‘s somewhat similar to Cheryl Strayed‘s ‘tiny beautiful things‘ - a collection of agony aunt letters & responses. It‘s definitely less ‘emotional‘ than Cheryl‘s book, but still very much relatable - I guarantee at the very least one of the letters will resonate with you (if not more…) A very easy & helpful read for this complicated thing we call life…

Light and fun, everything we love from an agony aunt column, collected for our entertainment. Easy commute listening.
