The first two thirds were a bit slow but the final third made it worth finishing. A Cree family is falling apart, the father and daughter take a journey into the wilderness and family history takes them to where they need to be both physically and spiritually.

I must complain about the jacket copy - the events referenced don't happen until HALFWAY THROUGH THE BOOK. This is why I don't read jacket copy anymore...

Aside from that, this was quite lovely. The relationship between Holly & Matthew is lovely to watch unfold and the emotion Robertson infuses into his characters is palpable at times.

Mending a broken father-daughter relationship is at the core of this story about a Cree family set in contemporary Winnipeg. Matt feels empty inside & has been making all the wrong choices in trying to feel better, getting panic attacks instead. His wife Claire is feeling betrayed & their prickly teen daughter Holly is angry & hurt, refusing to speak to him. It takes a tragedy & a return to ancestral homelands for healing to begin. #Indigenous
