5 posts | 9 read | 3 to read
A collection of short inspirational readings by "one of the world's wisest women" and author of When Things Fall Apart (O, the Oprah Magazine) Pema Chödrön, beloved Buddhist nun and best-selling author, offers this treasury of 108 short selections from her more than four decades of study and writings. Here she presents teachings on breaking free of destructive patterns; developing patience, kindness, and joy amid our everyday struggles; becoming fearless; and unlocking our natural warmth, intelligence, and goodness. Designed for on-the-go inspiration, this is a perfect guide to Buddhist principles and the foundations of meditation and mindfulness. The Shambhala Pocket Library is a collection of short, portable teachings from notable figures across religious traditions and classic texts. The covers in this series are rendered by Colorado artist Robert Spellman. The books in this collection distill the wisdom and heart of the work Shambhala Publications has published over 50 years into a compact format that is collectible, reader-friendly, and applicable to everyday life.

Not the tagged book. 😒 Pema Chodron was asked to come out of her own retreat to offer a weekend retreat to a group at the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado. Pema‘s teachings over that weekend were recorded in front of the live audience and produced in audiobook format for everyone to enjoy. I love that Buddhist teachings are extremely relatable to my daily life.

So many new books to read! I bought myself a book for Christmas and a friend gave me a book of poetry for Christmas. But those are at home. Sadly. However, I found this in my tote. So this will be today's lunchtime tome. Happy Wednesday!

I confess. This picture is a lie. I haven't been able to concentrate on any reading in the past 24+ hours. I did get to go out and have two Schlafly Dragon Brown Ales, get my mother to think I was weird for snapping this pic, and then somehow manage to get in a fight even though she voted for Hillz. I need this week to end for real. Bonus irony for beer and Buddhism. #photoadaynov16 #bookandbrew

Alfoster Beer and Buddhism a great pairing!😀â¤ï¸ 8y
LindsayReads @Alfoster Reminiscent of this, which I haven't read in full yet, but suspect I can get behind 100%: 8y
Alfoster I just remember teaching Siddhartha for the first time and realizing how much it meant to me (maybe not the kids as much; I was so young)!😳 8y
