Happy bday to Lucy Stone (1818-1893)! Stone was a women's suffragist & abolitionist who helped initiate the 1st Nat'l Women's Rights Convention & founded the Women's Nat'l Loyal League to abolish slavery. She also founded the American Women Suffrage Assoc., & she orated & wrote on antislavery & feminism in the Women's Journal. She didn't take her husband's last name & encouraged women to wear bloomers! AND JUST LOOK AT THEM. THEY'RE FABULOUS. 🙋🏻

Stephanie-Anne Thanks for reminding me of Lucy Stone! I've always wanted to learn more about her. It's fascinating how she learned Greek and Latin so she could read the Bible as it was written, suspecting it had been translated into English with a certain bias. 😻😻😻 So you recommend this biography? 8y
BookishFeminist @Stephanie-Anne I haven't personally read it (yet) but this one seems to be well reviewed & not too obscure, so I'm inclined to trust it. 8y

BookishFeminist @Stephanie-Anne And you're welcome! I love Lucy Stone. I always wonder why we don't hear more about her when history books teach about women's suffrage- she was in the game before Susan B Anthony & recruited her! She was SO much more radically outspoken than a lot of her fellow suffragists, too. Fascinating person. 8y
moranadatter Oh wow! That's a name I haven't heard in a long time. I definitely need to check this out. Thanks! 8y
BookishFeminist @kmdartist You're welcome! And yes- she's not mentioned often and I wish she were! She's so badass. 8y
ultrabookgeek This woman was my favorite person to talk about in elementary school during women's history month. Checking this out. 8y
BookishFeminist @sharimichele Yes, agreed. My college had a building named after her! Wish she was more known to folks. If you get to this before I do let me know how it is! 8y
