Happy bday to Lucy Stone (1818-1893)! Stone was a women's suffragist & abolitionist who helped initiate the 1st Nat'l Women's Rights Convention & founded the Women's Nat'l Loyal League to abolish slavery. She also founded the American Women Suffrage Assoc., & she orated & wrote on antislavery & feminism in the Women's Journal. She didn't take her husband's last name & encouraged women to wear bloomers! AND JUST LOOK AT THEM. THEY'RE FABULOUS. 🙋🏻

Stephanie-Anne Thanks for reminding me of Lucy Stone! I've always wanted to learn more about her. It's fascinating how she learned Greek and Latin so she could read the Bible as it was written, suspecting it had been translated into English with a certain bias. 😻😻😻 So you recommend this biography? 8y

I always wonder why we don't hear more about her when history books teach about women's suffrage- she was in the game before Susan B Anthony & recruited her! She was SO much more radically outspoken than a lot of her fellow suffragists, too. Fascinating person. 8y
