From the New York Times bestselling creator of the Vanderbeekers series comes a triumphant tale of friendship, healing, and the power of believing in ourselves told from the perspective of biracial sixth-graders June and Tyrell, two children living in a homeless shelter. As their friendship grows over a shared love of classical music, June and Tyrell confront a new housing policy that puts homeless families in danger. It's Junes first day at Huey House, and as if losing her home werent enough, she also cant bring her cherished viola inside. Before the accident last year, her dad saved tip money for a year to buy her viola, and shes not about to give it up now. Tyrell has been at Huey House for three years and gives June a glimpse of the good things about living there: friendship, hot meals, and a classical musician next door. Can he and June work together to oppose the government, or will families be forced out of Huey House before they are ready?

June and her little sister and their mom are at a homeless shelter now after losing their dad, and Mom is catatonic- Tyrell‘s been at Huey House for 3 years now, since his dad went to jail. Life isn‘t perfect there, but friends and special shared moments help a lot. Well written!

A beautifully heartbreaking (but ultimately uplifting) novel of kids who live in a homeless shelter in New York. I loved the music, the friendships, and the desire to be heard. We would all do well to seek out stories of people living a vastly different life than our own.

My #libraryhold from Libby just came in. This is another book I won from a Goodreads giveaway but I‘m going to listen to it on audio.

A gorgeous triumph of a book. An ode to found family and resilience, this story of 2 young people who meet while living in a homeless shelter in nyc gave me ALL the feels. I would expect nothing less from the author of the vanderbeekers books but this one was something incredibly special. I know nothing about homelessness and appreciated the education here. Also there is a scene involving a dog and a book that you don‘t want to miss. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
