“No matter what any tells you, I'm real.“
Perfect book to keep in a middle school classroom library. This book would also work great for teachers to use in reading groups.

This is a adventurous story about the journey of Max discovering a peculiar school for children who don't quite fit in. It's very imaginative and has lots of details. With this book being from the perspective of an 11 year old, I feel other middle school aged children will love reading this book.
Welcome to the world of “whatnots” and who is one and who isn‘t one! This is an MG story of friendship with touches of science fiction, fantasy, and mystery.

Thought-provoking sci-fi middle grade read with real world implications. The concept is fantastic, integrating a dystopian-type narrative with messages about inequality with regard to wealth, privilege, & opportunity. A hopeful approach to the examination of this topic, which may seem oversimplified for adults, but provides a good jumping off point for middle grade conversations. Includes some examination of important related emotional issues.
Another fantastic & thought-provoking middle grade novel by the amazing Haddix. I love everything she writes and this standalone is no different. In this book, rich children go to school in a classroom full of android children, to avoid bullying & concerns that could arise due to fiscal/societal inequalities. This has a younger feel to it than her other books so it would make a great start for readers before getting into her other books.
