Mehso-so

(1976) Twelfth in Kenneth Bulmer's sword-and-planet series featuring 18th-century sailor Dray Prescot and his adventures on the planet Kregen. In this one, Prescot is sent back to Earth for several years, forcing him to miss a call-to-arms of his order of warriors. When he returns to Kregen, the order strips Prescot of membership, and the next few books involve restoring his honor. Maybe not the best of sf, but it delivers what it promises.
