Extraordinarily tense and deliciously mysterious, Anna Downes's The Shadow House follows one woman's desperate journey to protect her children at any cost, in a remote place where not everything is as it seems. Single mother-of-two Alex is determined to make a fresh start for her and her children. In an effort to escape her troubled past and the scourges of modern life that threaten to ensnare her teenage son, she seeks refuge in a rural community. Pine Ridge is idyllic; the surrounding forests are beautiful and the locals welcoming. Mostly. But Alex finds that she may have disturbed barely hidden secrets in her new home. As a chain of bizarre eventseerily familiar to those who have lived there for yearsis set off and history begins to repeat itself, Alex realizes that she and her family might be in greater danger than ever before. And that the only way to protect them all is to confront the shadows lurking in Pine Ridge.

This is a fun mystery/thriller. Two separate but equally creepy and slowly intersecting story lines focus on mums trying to protect their children. I loved the characters, the plot twists and the resolution. I enjoyed her writing style and plan on reading her other books.

Alex and her two kids are running from someone. She finds an “eco village” where they can live in peace (commune). However, there‘s an old farmhouse on the property where something happened years ago. Creepy things begin happening, and Alex has to decide how to protect her family. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This one was quite creepy but the ending was a bit of a let down. A lack lustre reveal but the storyline kept me interested throughout!

I liked The Safe Place & couldn't wait to get The Shadow House. I found my palms sweating with this one. I don't know if it was because of the maternal themes or if it was because Downes does such a fabulous job creating foreboding, rich atmospheres but it got to me. Creepy, tense, & unnerving, this was another great book by this author. An easy ⭐⭐⭐⭐.

The Shadow House is the second thriller written by Anna Downes. I really enjoyed The Safe Place so was excited to dive into this one. Downes is really great at setting the scene. I always feel like I am living inside her novels. Taking place in an ecovillage in Australia, The Shadow House took me to a location and community I've never experienced before. With a few fun twists and turns, this book kept me guessing up until the very end. ⁣

A dark theme with odd, angry characters and a sci-fi/paranormal feel.

An ok read for me. I was a bit disappointed because I really enjoyed her first book.

The Shadow House was a twisted thriller that I really enjoyed. Told from the viewpoints of two women, Alex and Renee, the two different perspectives and personalities wonderfully tell the story, playing off each other and coming together perfectly at the end. I liked that there are so many strong, fierce female characters in this novel. I also loved all of the mysteric aspects of this novel. I highly recommend this novel!

SilversReviews I honestly didn‘t like it. I am glad it was enjoyable for you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Loved her last book. 3y
