Medical fantasy. Very real. Very visual. Amazing flawed characters.

Refugee and blood magic user Firuz convinces a small clinic to take them on as an assistant during a pandemic, and they find themself in the midst of an unexpected underlying crisis. I really enjoyed this read, which I picked up because of #RainbowCrateBookBox. I liked the characters, and always enjoy finding queer-normative settings. The ending got intense but it was really good. Also loved the giant mushrooms. #LGBTQ #Magic
I'll eventually stop being lazy and actually update this graphic properly, but for now I'll use pic collage to show off my additional two reads for #LGBTQBookBingo!
Free Space: Koimonogatari vol. 1
Ace rep: The Bruising of Qilwa (bonus points for aro-ace rep)

I've been meaning to read this novella ever since I got the arc because I know the author (they edited a short story of mine) and it did not dissapoint! A refugee finds work as a healer in their new home but must hide their affinity for blood magic as a plague sweeps the city and fingers begin pointing at the dangerous and often misunderstood work of blood mages. Great sibling relationships and the complicated interplay of marginalization.
