Today‘s reading - the mug is from my daughter❤️
Set in the 80s, this dark, twisty thriller follows Wayland, a very angry teenager certain his father's suicide is not what it seemed. He witnessed this tragedy and has been deeply marked by the trauma; his bullying best friend, his wild younger sister, and his mostly absent mother are no help in his efforts to seek answers, but even when his crush joins the search, Wayland's single-minded focus leads to unspeakable disaster & shocking revelations.
This started off really good and I was intrigued by the story. But there was one part about about 75% in that just seemed really out there (and somewhat unnecessary), and the story really went off the tracks after that. 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
So #NovelNovember was an extremely productive Readathon for me. 🤩 I started it with only 5 of these #bookspinbingo books completed, and now I only have three left! I also read 30 or so comics and graphic novels this past week 🥷🏻🧟♂️🧛🏻♂️
Thank you for hosting these amazing events @Andrew65 and @TheAromaofBooks !

One could almost call this a cautionary tale.
But…
The ending was too devastating and over-the-top for me. You all know I like dark books, so I am just as confused as you are as I write this. I did not like the utter despair of it all. I think this story will haunt me, but not in a good way.

Wow- I really couldn‘t stop listening to this rather crazy story! Set in a small Vermont town, the bulk of the book comes from Wayland Maynard‘s perspective. When he was eight, his father shot himself- but now, as a teenager, Wayland starts to doubt his own memories about the day. Uncovering the note his father left only leads to more secrets coming to light. I gasped out loud with a few of the plot‘s genuinely unexpected turns! #AudioColoring
Wayland was 8 years old when he saw his father commit suicide, now he is 16, and he keeps finding things that don't add up to what really happened to his father. He employs the help of 2 of his friends to help him figure out what the town will not say.
This dark thriller kept me interested from beginning to the end, with many twists and turns. Looking forward to reading more by Eric Rickstad.
