When Merlin's feckless son is summoned to King Uther's court to train as an apprentice wizard, his far more competent sister Emry takes his place (temporarily!). Loved the masquerade, the inclusivity and Arthur as a bookish library boy.

I loved this! So much fun. Do not read if you hold the King Arthur myth too close - in this version Merlin is a woman, Lancelot is in trouble for her relationship with a royal's son, and Guinevere is....not great. I loved the deception as Merlin dresses as a boy in her desire to learn magic and the cute budding love between her and Arthur. The relationships throughout are wonderful. The writing hugs YA territory but is enjoyable.
"Arthur Pendragon was drunk."
I love a good short too the point first line ?

I‘ve read so many amazing books lately! I can‘t wait to share my April/May reading wrap up.
For now here is my most recent 5 star read. The cast of characters were enchanting, the romance was so well done, and the plot was completely engrossing! I cannot wait for the next book

This is a King Arthur retelling. I enjoying it very much. It is a YA maybe with silly parts but they were funny and it is full of action. There is representation to LGBTIQ+ The problem, well, there is a sequel. As a YA fantasy novel 3.8⭐️

I make poor decisions… like reading a book that came out in September 2021 without checking if it‘s a standalone…. And then finishing it far too quickly. Now I must wait, possibly forever, for the next installment of awesome.
The Other Merlin by Robyn Schneider is the first book in a series and an exciting new feminist take on Arthurian legend. The story revolves around Emry Merlin, the famous wizard Merlin's daughter. One day, she's playing a boy in a theater when a soldier arrives summoning Merlin's son, her twin brother Emmett, to court. She decides to take his place and arrives at the castle disguised as her brother.
I really dislike the cover of this book but I absolutely loved the story. This is for anyone who loves the idea of My Lady Jane in Camelot. I'm really interested to see where these books go and I hope there is more Gawain in the future.
