The Language of Bees
The Language of Bees: A novel of suspense featuring Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes | Laurie R. King
7 posts | 26 read | 9 to read
BONUS: This edition contains an excerpt from Laurie R. King's The God of the Hive and Pirate King. For Mary Russell and her husband, Sherlock Holmes, returning to the Sussex coast after seven months abroad was especially sweet. There was even a mystery to solve—the unexplained disappearance of an entire colony of bees from one of Holmes’s beloved hives. But the anticipated sweetness of their homecoming is quickly tempered by a galling memory from the past. Mary had met Damian Adler only once before, when the surrealist painter had been charged with—and exonerated from—murder. Now the troubled young man is enlisting the Holmeses’ help again, this time in a desperate search for his missing wife and child. Mary has often observed that there are many kinds of madness, and before this case yields its shattering solution she’ll come into dangerous contact with a fair number of them. From suicides at Stonehenge to the dark secrets of a young woman’s past on the streets of Shanghai, Mary will find herself on the trail of a killer more dangerous than any she’s ever faced—a killer Sherlock Holmes himself may be protecting for reasons near and dear to his heart.

I loved this book!!! This series is becoming my favorite series of all time. I love how Mary has grown into a person and her character is great. I also love how her relationship with Holmes has really developed over the past few books. I rated this book a 5 out of 5 stars.

dabbe An excellent Sherlock Holmes pastiche? Yes, please! 🤩 4mo

I've never read the original Sherlock Holmes books but I love the YA Enola Holmes books and this great series by Laurie R King gives an older Sherlock a young and brilliant wife, Mary Russell and she is the narrator of this richly researched historical series. This particular one is the first half of a 2 part-er which is slightly annoying... but I still highly recommend them. #CrimeReads #CosyCrime #Sherlock #HistoricalCrime

Continuing this series as the last time I read it was in 2017 I think.
The adventures of Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes continue as they head back to the English shores. However, they are not long at home until they are enveloped again into another adventure. The book ended on a cliffhanger, so I guess I will have to plan to read the next one in the series soon.

It's raining for the third day in a row and classes begin in two weeks and sometimes one needs a comfort reread. I love the whole Mary Russell / Sherlock Holmes series but this one seemed to suit my mood. Funny the synchronicity, @bookishkris .
