Ragamuffin Gospel
Ragamuffin Gospel | Brennan Manning
A Furious Love Is Hot on Your Trail! Many believers feel stunted in their Christian growth. We beat ourselves up over our failures and, in the process, pull away from God because we subconsciously believe He tallies our defects and hangs His head in disappointment. In this newly repackaged edition now with full appendix, and the author s own epilogue, "The Scandal of Grace: "Fifteen""Years Later, Brennan Manning reminds us that nothing could be further from the truth. The Father beckons us to Himself with a furious love that burns brightly and constantly. Only when we truly embrace God s grace can we bask in the joy of a gospel that enfolds the most needy of His flock the ragamuffins. Are you bedraggled, beat-up, burnt-out? Most of us believe in God s grace in theory. But somehow we can t seem to apply it in our daily lives. We continue to see Him as a small-minded bookkeeper, tallying our failures and successes on a score sheet. Yet God gives us His grace, willingly, no matter what we ve done. We come to Him as ragamuffins dirty, bedraggled, and beat-up. And when we sit at His feet, He smiles upon us, the chosen objects of His furious love. Brennan Manning s now-classic meditation on grace and what it takes to access it simple honesty has changed thousands of lives. Now with a Ragamuffin s thirty-day spiritual journey guide, it will change yours, too. Includes a 19-Day Spiritual Journey Guide! Brennan Manning does a masterful job of blowing the dust off of shop-worn theology and allowing God s grace to do what only God s grace can do amaze. "-Max Lucado, Bestselling author of The Gift for All People " I found deep comfort in realizing that Jesus loves even me, a ragamuffin, just as I am. "-Michael Card, Musician, recording artist, and author of A Violent Grace " This is a zestful and accurate portrayal that tells us unmistakably that the gospel is good, dazzlingly good. "-Eugene Peterson, Author of The Message "Story Behind the Book The world assigns value to people using measurable standards. Someone is a successful student if she receives As. Someone is a strong athlete if he runs five miles a day. The Lord, however, knows nothing of standards. "The Ragamuffin Gospel" was inspired by Brennan Manning after he discovered firsthand what it means to live by grace instead of performance. His words bring new life and sweet refreshment to Christians who are tired of never measuring up."

Some parts I loved and others I honestly glazed over. I think the authors writing style is what hindered me more so than the content. The overall message is that we are gifted the gospel before we ask for it, and no earthly tasks can gain us entry into heaven or keep us out if we go through Jesus. We are accepted the way we are.

I purchased this book in 1997! It's completely covered by underlining and comments. I haven't read it since then. I'm kinda nervous to read what I wrote then.
Some of us are going to do a buddy read of this. It is a nonfiction book about Christianity. If you're interested in joining, see @steverogers post about it (or post here.) @EllieDottie @MatchlessMarie @JenaJenkins

EllieDottie I've never read this book! I would really like to read it! 7y

A lot of you posted that you had "The Ragamuffin Gospel" on your TBR. Would anyone be interested in a read along? I'm not sure how #buddyreads work as I haven't ever done one, but I would love to try if enough people were interested!

VanChocStrawberry I'd join! 🙂 7y

EllieDottie I would definitely join in!! 7y
maximoffs @MatchlessMarie @VanChocStrawberry @EllieDottie any idea how buddy reads typically work? I'm in the dark here 😂 7y
EllieDottie Hmm I think one way to do it would be just to set a date to have the book finished and then to have a bunch of questions for discussions and such! And people just use a hashtag as they are reading the book! 7y
MatchlessMarie @steverogers I've never done one either! But what I've noticed is there is typically a reading schedule of some sort usually followed by a discussion. Although from what I gather, discussion on this one is probably gonna be on the heavy side. 7y
maximoffs @MatchlessMarie that makes sense!! That's probably the best way to do it 7y
VanChocStrawberry I like the idea of have chapters done by a certain time. And then @steverogers could ask questions (or at least start us off with questions) and the convo would go from there? 7y
readinginthedark I would love to do that! Not sure what kind of time I have coming up, but it sounds fun! 7y

I don't have the answers but I have learned to embrace the paradoxes of life because it can be both beautiful and ugly. To live in only one realm would be half living. I don't want just the beautiful - give me the ugly too, so that I can have a full life. #takemetochurch #lyricalapril
