A Terrible Fall of Angels
A Terrible Fall of Angels | Laurell K. Hamilton
7 posts | 6 read | 8 to read
Angels walk among us, but so do other unearthly beings in this brand new series by #1 New York Times Bestselling author Laurell K. Hamilton. Meet Detective Zaniel Havelock, a man with the special ability to communicate directly with angels. A former trained Angel speaker, he devoted his life to serving both the celestial beings and his fellow humans with his gift, but a terrible betrayal compelled him to leave that life behind. Now he's a cop who is still working on the side of angels. But where there are angels, there are also demons. There's no question that there's evil at work when he's called in to examine the murder scene of a college student--but is it just the evil that one human being can do to another, or is it something more? When demonic possession is a possibility, even angelic protection can only go so far. The race is on to stop a killer before he finds his next victim, as Zaniel is forced to confront his own very personal demons, and the past he never truly left behind. The first in a new series from the author of the Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series.

Bk2 from my #BookMail is the first in a new series by the author of the Anita Blake books. I‘ve heard this is like the original Anita books which were more crime thriller than the 2nd half are. Zaniel(?!?)Havelock is a detective & an Angel talker. He devoted his life to the celestial beings but a betrayal made him leave it behind & become a cop.But when he‘s called to a scene that involves demonic possession he‘s forced to work with them again.🕊️

5feet.of.fury I‘ve read this, i enjoyed it. It was really unique world building and set up. 2y

#weekendreads

1. Current read: MOX by Jon Moxley (aka former WWE superstar Dean Ambrose to close out WrestleMania weekend)
2. Both my weekend reads have black and white covers, so that‘s kinda weird.
3. Top of April TBR was A Terrible Fall of Angels because it‘s due back to the library tomorrow, but I finished it yesterday.

A solid start to the series.

Detective Daniel Havelock can talk to angels. As a youth he was recruited by College of Angels to do just that, he left the College/“cult” (depends who you ask) joined the army &then the police force. He‘s dealing with a failing marriage he hopes to resurrect when a crime committed by a demon brings people (&beings) from his past into his new life.

Christian themes are centered, but not the sole source of power.⬇️

5feet.of.fury I will also say, I have read 20+ books by LKH, there are obviously things I LIKE in her writing - some 🧐. and this was a lot more focused than Anita Blake has become. Some weird flirting and a whole chapter about whether or not a character will take off his shirt 🤪 but it‘s pretty plot focused, no pages long physical descriptions, no implausible sexcapades. A couple plot strands get lost that I‘ll have to wait and see if they make it to book 2. 3y
DarkMina I have this on my list to read. Glad to hear this one is more plot focused. Unfortunately, the Anita Blake series has lost some of that. 3y
5feet.of.fury @DarkMina yeah I this was a lot different than Anita has become. Which, I am still reading them, but there‘s way more time spent with the harem than the plot in those now. This is a good concept, I will definitely continue this series! 3y
