Everything I Have Is Yours
Everything I Have Is Yours: A Marriage | Eleanor Henderson
4 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
A turbulent romance meets harrowing medical mystery: the true story of the authors twenty-year marriage defined by her husbands chronic illnessand a testament to the endurance of love. Eleanor met Aaron when she was just a teenager and he was working at a local record storeolder, cool, experienced, and with an electric personality. Escaping the clichs of fleeting young love, their summer romance bloomed into a relationship that survived college and culminated in a marriage and two children. From the outside looking in, their life had all the trappings of what most would consider a success story. But, as in any marriage, things werent always as they seemed. On top of the typical stresses of parenting, money, and work, there were Aarons untended wounds of depression, addiction, and family trauma. Then, when burning lesions appeared on his body overnight, Eleanor was as baffled as his doctors. There seemed to be no obvious diagnosis, let alone a cure. And when the lesions gave way to Aarons increasingly disturbed concerns about parasites living inside him, the husband she loved began to unravel before her eyes. A new fissure ruptured in their marriage, and new questions piled onto old ones: Where does physical illness end and mental illness begin? Where does one person end and another begin? And how do we exist alongside someone elses suffering? Emotional, propulsive, and at times heartbreaking, Eleanor Henderson's Everything I Have Is Yours tells the story of a marriage tested by powerful forces out of both partners control. Its not only a memoir of a wifes tireless quest to heal her husband, but one that asks just what it means to accept someone as they are.

Wow, brutal. Henderson seems to open up her entire life, mainly her darkest times struggling with her husband‘s health issues, for the world to see. Aaron, her partner, has a wide range of issues including mental health, substance abuse, inexplicable rashes and bodily dysfunction in a myriad of ways. To top it off drs can‘t find anything “wrong” with him physically. Morgellon‘s disease is a possibility. This takes a toll on the entire family.

Megabooks This was crazy heavy! 2y

The author met her husband-to-be the summer before starting college. This memoir tells the story of their courtship, emotional, financial, and medical (physical and mental) health struggles. If you‘re looking for answers, solutions, and denouement, this book is not for you. I‘ll quote Kirkus: “A memoir of interest to anyone coping with a loved one‘s struggle with illness and dependency.”

This is a lot to process. Eleanor and Aaron have been together since she was 17. This book is the story of their 25+ year marriage and Aaron‘s illness. Aaron has substance abuse issues, but somewhere along the way, he also developed a confounding skin condition/mental illness that has had doctor‘s flummoxed or put him on the crazy list. A lot of this is her story of trying to get him help while protect their children from his wild mood swings ⬇️

Megabooks ⬆️ and suicide attempts. It‘s the story of two people, two children, and how the scars of childhood can continue to haunt you. (Also a CW for off the page incestuous molestation.) I‘d call this #audiobook a #BorrowNotBuy, but I think some readers will really relate. 3y
Cinfhen Sounds super heavy but the premise sounds compelling 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen it was really heavy. Great way to describe it. I had to put it down a number of times just to get through. 3y
Megabooks This is my 100th memoir this year @Chelsea.Poole ! I think I can safely call this the #YearOfMemoirs! My next most has under 50. (Literary fiction) 🤯 3y
