An engaging middle grade fantasy about a girl who mistakenly claims (or is claimed) by a magical sword that enlists her aid (and yes, the sword definitely has a mind of its own) in stopping a rising evil. Elements of the story will be familiar—a plucky band of orphans fighting against an oppressive authority for instance—but the story is well executed, the characters engaging & the talking sword will definitely keeps young readers interested.
