I am so far behind on my OUABC boxes from last year and this year so I‘m trying to catch up. This was one from last year and I love that this box lets me read books I wouldn‘t normally read and that I enjoy them so much! I really liked this book and it was interesting to read about such an interesting woman!

There were some dips in the story for me, fell into the “tell don‘t show” category but I still loved reading about this strong and fierce frontier woman!

I would LOVE some historical fiction recommendations centered around the American frontier and gold rush time period.
Bonus points for a woman‘s perspective and has the movie Maverick vibes.
I have read The Revenant, currently reading A Betting Woman and loving it.

Starting one of my #ouabc books, reading a little each day until I get caught up! I‘m woefully behind and I ordered two special boxes for October! #booknerdproblems

This is a historical fiction novel based on the life of a genuine unique American character. This had a lot of potential, but the characterization fell flat more often than not and the pacing at the end was far too rushed. I think the author tried too hard to keep too much historically accurate to the detriment to the story. 3⭐️

So I have 2 Once Upon a Bookclub boxes and I am going to do my best to not peek and open the gifts as I read them. Both books look interesting!

This was a good story for the most part, though I wasn‘t really enticed. It was more fun knowing that this Eleanor Durmont was a real person, fighting the world of men to survive within the highs of the gold rush era. There wasn‘t much else to it, as I‘d say she was crazy to go all up and down the way following the miners. But I respect her desire to own her life, control what she wants, to bend her name with the cards she deals.

Next club box arrived! When her entire family perishes in a fire, Simone flees to reinvent herself. Using her quick wits, she makes her way into vingt-et-un, otherwise modern-day blackjack. To which she works to try and make a new life for herself in a mans world.
