Silent Parade | Keigo Higashino
8 posts | 4 read | 4 to read
Detective Galileo, Keigo Higashinos best loved character from The Devotion of Suspect X, returns in Silent Parade, a complex and challenging mysteryseveral murders, decades apart, with no solid evidence. A popular young girl disappears without a trace, her skeletal remains discovered three years later in the ashes of a burned out house. Theres a suspect and compelling circumstantial evidence of his guilt, but no concrete proof. When he isnt indicted, he returns to mock the girls family. And this isnt the first time hes been suspected of the murder of a young girl, nearly twenty years ago he was tried and released due to lack of evidence. Chief Inspector Kusanagi of the Homicide Division of the Tokyo Police worked both cases. The neighborhood in which the murdered girl lived is famous for an annual street festival, featuring a parade with entries from around Tokyo and Japan. During the parade, the suspected killer dies unexpectedly. His death is suspiciously convenient but the people with all the best motives have rock solid alibis. CI Kusanagi turns once again to his college friend, Physics professor and occasional police consultant Manabu Yukawa, known as Detective Galileo, to help solve the string of impossible-to-prove murders.

For me this was the first in a series featuring the intriguing “Dr Galileo”, physics professor & police consultant. Thank heavens the book included 1 1/2 pages of 18 character names & a descriptive sentence for each! I constantly referred to it throughout my reading.
Skeletal remains of a young woman who went missing 3 years earlier are discovered, leading to an investigation. The suspect was tried & released 20 years ago for lack of evidence🔽

kspenmoll 🔼In a similar case. In the more recent case, the same suspect is not tried due to lack of concrete proof. Some of the characters band together to take matters into their own hands. Any idea for which in the series I should read next? #serieslove2023 (edited) 1y

kspenmoll @CollapsingLibrary Thank you! It‘s a great pleasure to read here. It gets sun early morning, then not until late in the day as it faces Northwest. It‘s perfect! (edited) 1y

Tonight‘s read.#justtherightbook compliments of RJ Julia Booksellers in Madison CT. This is my first introduction to Detective Galileo & I am hooked!

jlhammar I really enjoy Higashino. I've only read three so far. Devotion of Suspect X is probably my favorite, but Malice and Salvation of a Saint were also good. Looking forward to this one! 1y
BarbaraBB I read the same ones as @jlhammar did but haven‘t heard of your one. Stacking! 1y
kspenmoll @jlhammar @BarbaraBB This is my first, so I will read backwards but so far it‘s sooooo good! 1y

I‘m a fan of Keigo Higashino and this latest in the ‘Detective Galileo‘ series did not disappoint. Yukawa, the sleuthing physicist and friend of Chief Insp Kusanagi once again stepped in to help the police solve a seemingly impossible murder. Although not a character driven story, it‘s still a gripping ‘how-dun-it‘.

MamaGina Love this series! 🤓 3y

This book was so good and worth the wait! As always, I would have never guessed the ending. I started the book and this puzzle last night and here I am. Book finished and puzzle nearly done. This is addicting. Also David Shih is one of my all time favorite narrators. Swoon. #japan #audiopuzzling

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In Silent Parade, a beautiful and musically gifted young girl disappears. Her remains are found three years later among the ashes of a burned out house. There was a suspect who kept returning to taunt the girls family but was never indicted due to lack of evidence. This prime suspect ends up dying during a popular annual street festival. Chief Inspector Kusanagi turns to Detective Galileo for answers.

BarbaraBB Wow, a new book in the series! 3y
suvata @BarbaraBB Yes, but it doesn‘t come out until December 14 … only a few more days. 3y
